PETER ZIMMERMANN WINS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JULY 8, 2024 - Peter Zimmermann of the Gateway Grizzlies has won the Frontier League Player of the Week award!
Peter Zimmermann has been a versatile weapon for the Gateway Grizzlies throughout the season, as exemplified in his playing three different defensive positions over the last week while continuously doing damage with his bat. In six games this week, Zimmermann collected at least one hit in every contest while seeing time at first base, third base, and right field. His best game came at the beginning of the week where he went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, and a walk against the New England Knockouts. He went 12-for-23 at the plate with a double, three home runs, and 10 RBIs while walking twice as much as he struck out for the week. The former Mizzou Tiger ended a brilliant stretch with a .522 AVG/.586 OBP/.957 SLG split stat line.
Zimmermann is no stranger to the Player of the Week award, winning it for the first time in the first week of the 2022 season and again in the second week of 2023. He is currently in his third season with Gateway after a solid college career at the University of Missouri. The 27-year-old utility player has hit 41 home runs in his career, including a career-high 21 last season. His 11 home runs this year are tied for second-best in the league. He is also a .307 lifetime hitter in the Frontier League with an impressive .573 career slugging percentage.
