FRONTIER LEAGUE SETS NEW ATTENDANCE RECORD FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR

WRITTEN BY: MIKE GUISTOLISE

AVON, OH – Sunday marked a historic day for the Frontier League and its member clubs as a new single-season attendance record was set, surpassing the previous mark set in 2023.  The 2024 mark comes with 47 games remaining in the regular season.

The Schaumburg Boomers have led the way, averaging 4,750 fans per game in their 46 openings at Wintrust Field, eclipsing their 2023 average by nearly 250 fans. 2024 also marks the 10th straight season that the Boomers have led the Frontier League in attendance. Schaumburg enjoyed several significant individual events throughout the season, including breaking their single-game attendance record twice in the span of a week. The Boomers also crossed the threshold for 2,000,000 total fans in early August.

The Frontier League West Division Champion Washington Wild Things were another West team that had tremendous turnout. In one of their most successful seasons ever, Washington packed Wild Things Park on a consistent basis, averaging over 2,000 fans per game and selling the stadium out six times.

The Québec Capitales headed the attendance in the East for the second consecutive season. Québec was awarded hosting duties for this season's All-Star Game and has seen baseball grow in an encouraging way in the French-Canadian province. The Capitales averaged around 3,400 fans at Stade Canac in 2024, almost 400 better than last year. On top of winning the East Division for the third year in a row, the Capitales sold out 19 games, including a streak of 15 in a row.

Part of the significant fan increase has to do with the new markets that the Frontier League has tapped into in recent years, including the inception of the New England Knockouts. In addition,13 of the 15 holdover teams from last season have seen average-game attendance increases.  New Jersey led the way by more than doubling their 2023 attendance at Hinchliffe Stadium.  Tri-City (12.15%) and Ottawa (8.73%) also posted significant increases in average crowds.

Frontier League Steve Tahsler remarked on his pride across the league in the achievement: "We thank the fans from all 16 of our markets for the tremendous support they have shown our clubs," said Tahsler.  "I also want to acknowledge the team staffs whose hard work and dedication led to our third consecutive season attendance record."
