BOOMERS ROLL OVER Y'ALLS - FRONTIER DAILY ROUNDUP

BOOMERS SCORE LATE TO STEAL WIN AWAY FROM Y'ALLS

SCHAUMBURG, IL - The Schamburg Boomers took down the Florence Y'alls 8-6 on Wednesday. 

The Boomers (16-6) rallied late at Wintrust Field to leave the Y'alls (7-13) in the dust. DH Kyle Fitzgerald and LF Aaron Simmons both tallied RBI singles in the first inning to put Schaumburg up 2-0. The Y'alls took the lead on the strength of a four-run third, but Fitzgerald kept things close, cutting the Florence lead to one with a solo homer in the bottom of the inning. After tying things up in the following inning, Fitzgerald gave the Boomers a one-run lead with a sacrifice fly. The Y'alls would retake a 6-5 lead in the sixth, but Schaumburg rallied for three runs in the eighth to make it 8-6. RHP Mitch White earned the win in relief as RHP Matt Helwig picked up the save. LHP Kent Klyman lost the lead in the eighth and took the loss for Florence.

The Boomers will look for the sweep against the Y'alls on Thursday night. First pitch for the series finale is set for 7:30 PM EDT.

CAPITALES USE BIG EIGHTH INNING TO KNOCK OUT NEW ENGLAND

BROCKTON, MA - The Québec Capitales defeated the New England Knockouts 7-3 on Wednesday at Campanelli Stadium. 

Québec (11-12) was able to put the game away with a big eighth inning against the Knockouts (7-15). The Capitales broke the scoring seal in the top of the second inning when 3B Fransisco Hernandez singled up the middle to make it 1-0. The lead was doubled when an error by the New England catcher allowed another run to score in the fifth. The Knockouts were able to get on the board in the seventh, but Québec's offense took off in the eighth, tallying five runs to make it 7-1. DH Jake MacKenzie put the finishing touches on the rally by bringing home three runs with a double to right. RHP Sam Ryan got the win for Québec while RHP Casey Bargo took the loss.

The Capitales and Knockouts will play their series finale on Thursday. First pitch is at 6:30 PM EDT.

ZACH KIRBY PITCHES A GEM AS WILD THINGS DEFEAT T-BOLTS

WASHINGTON, PA - The Washington Wild Things beat the Windy City ThunderBolts 11-2 on Wednesday.

Washington (16-6) got a great starting performance out of RHP Zach Kirby while putting up 11 runs on 14 hits on the ThunderBolts (9-15). After Windy City scored in the top of the first, the Wild Things responded with a solo shot from CF Caleb McNeely to knot things up at 1-1. After falling behind in the top of the fourth, RF Robert Chakya got Washington's offense rolling with a grand slam to take a 5-2 lead. The Wild Things would get another four runs in the fifth inning while Kirby kept the Bolts off the board for the remainder of his start, including Chakya bringing his RBI total for the day up to six. The Washington right-hander ended up going eight innings while allowing just one earned run, striking out seven in the process for the win. RHP John Mikolaicyk got the loss for Windy City.

The Wild Things will look for the sweep against the ThunderBolts on Thursday. First pitch for the series finale at Wild Things Park is set for 7:05 PM EDT.

BOULDERS TOO MUCH FOR MINERS

PONOMA, NY - The New York Boulders blasted the Sussex County Miners 11-3 on Wednesday at Clover Stadium. 

New York (16-6) continues to lead the Frontier League East division while sharing the best league record with Schaumburg and Washinton. The Boulders gave the Miners (10-13) problems early in the form of a five-run second inning, capped by SS Austin Dennis's two-run blast to make it 5-0. Sussex County was able to get on the board in the fourth, but New York stayed hot and made the score 11-1 by the end of the seventh. The Boulders finished with 11 runs on 18 hits, including five players with multi-hit games. RHP Blaine Trexel spun a quality start for New York, going seven innings while only allowing one run on two hits. Trexel got his fourth win of the year in the effort, while RHP Jimmy Boyce took the loss for Sussex County.

The Boulders and Miners will conclude their series on Thursday at 7:00 PM EDT.

JOLIET RALLIES LATE TO RUN AWAY FROM AIGLES

JOLIET, IL - The Joliet Slammers secured a series win with their victory over the Trois-Rivières Aigles on Wednesday.

The Slammers (10-13) were outhit by the Aigles (11-11) but were able to outscore them thanks to some excellent pitching. The Slammers were able to take the game's first lead, thanks to an error. The scoring was limited until the eighth when Trois-Rivières was able to tie the game at 1-1 with an RBI single. The Slammers then rallied in the eighth, scoring three runs to put themselves in prime positioning for the win. Joliet got the win on the strength of its bullpen, showing five relievers while only surrendering one hit. RHP Cole Wesneski got the win for the Slammers in relief while RHP Jesen Therrian took the loss for the Aigles.

The Slammers will look for their first series sweep of the season on Thursday when they host the Aigles at Duly Health & Care Field at 7:35 PM EDT.

GRIZZLIES BLANK TITANS

OTTAWA, CAN. - The Gateway Grizzlies shut out the Ottawa Titans 4-0 on the road on Wednesday night. 

The Grizzlies (15-8) only allowed three hits to the Titans (10-12) in the win. It was a pitching duel between the two sides before DH Gabe Holt's two-run single gave the Grizzlies the lead in the sixth. LF Andrew Moritz doubled the lead in the following inning with a two-run base hit of his own. For the most part, however, it was Colin Sullivan who was the focal point of the game for Gateway. The rookie right-hander shoved for seven innings, shutting out the Titans while tallying eight strikeouts and only allowing two hits. Sullivan's performance gave him his second win of the year. RHP Scott Prins took the loss for Ottawa.

The Grizzlies will be hosted by the Titans one more time at Ottawa Stadium, with the first pitch of the series finale on Thursday set for 6:30 PM EDT.

CRUSHERS STOMP OUT OTTERS

EVANSVILLE, IN - The Lake Erie Crushers evened their series with the Evansville Otters, taking the second game 10-3.

The Crushers (14-9) completed their comeback in the last two innings to snatch the win away from Evansville (7-16). The Otters were able to jump out in front early, leading 3-0 after the first two innings. The Crushers then started a stretch where they scored 10 unanswered runs, beginning in the fourth on an RBI single from RF Jack Harris. Still trailing in the eighth, DH Alfredo Gonzalez hit a two-run double to put the Crushers up 4-3 before 2B Ethan Skender widened the gap with a two-run blast. Lake Erie would post another four runs in the ninth, including another RBI from Skender as the Crushers sealed the victory. RHP Enrique Ozoa picked up the win in relief for the Crushers while LHP Leoni De La Cruz took the loss for the Otters.

The Otters will host the Crushers for a rubber match at Bosse Field on Thursday to determine the series winner. First pitch for the finale is set for 7:35 PM EDT.

VALLEYCATS STAY HOT IN WIN OVER JACKALS

PATERSON, NJ - The Tri-City ValleyCats took down the New Jersey Jackals 6-3 at Hinchcliffe Stadium on Wednesday.

The ValleyCats (12-11) are now in second place in the East division after sending New Jersey (9-13) to their fourth straight loss. Tri-City quickly established a lead in the first inning after 3B Ian Walters brought in two runs with a double. The Jackals cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first. New Jersey was then able to tie the game in the fourth before taking a 3-2 lead in the fifth thanks to a couple of defensive mistakes by the ValleyCats. Down one headed into the eighth, Tri-City was able to put together a small rally with two outs and ultimately scored three runs to give themselves a 5-3 lead. C Oscar Campos iced the game with a solo shot in the ninth, giving the ValleyCats their sixth win in their last seven tries. RHP Austin Dill got the win out of the bullpen for Tri-City while RHP Dazon Cole took the loss for the Jackals.

The ValleyCats will go for the sweep on Thursday against the Jackals. First pitch for the series finale is scheduled for 6:35 PM EDT.
