Y'ALLS TAKE DOWN DEFENDING CHAMPION CAPITALES

FLORENCE, Ken. — The Florence Y'alls kicked off the 2024 seasons by trouncing the back-to-back Frontier League Champion Québec Capitales 17-3 in front of a home crowd at Thomas More Stadium.

The batting clinic began for the Y'alls with a grand slam from DH Zade Richardson in the first inning, and the offense continued to flow for Florence throughout the entire game. There were only two innings in which the Y'alls failed to score, but it wasn't just their offense that was impressive. Starting pitcher Ryan Watson backed up the Y'alls offensive performance by allowing just four hits over five shutout innings. Richardson finished his huge game with seven RBIs on three hits.

Québec (0-1) will have two more chances to counter Florence (1-0) on Friday and Saturday.

JACKALS HANDLE BOULDERS IN A NEW JERSEY-NEW YORK SHOWDOWN

PATERSON, NJ — It was a big night for the New Jersey Jackals, as they took down the visiting New York Boulders on Opening Night, 14-6.

New York's designated hitter David Vinsky opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning to give the Boulders a 2-0 advantage. In the bottom half of the inning, first baseman Hemmaunel Rosario replied for New Jersey with a two-run blast to even the score at 2-2. After some back and forth through the first five innings, the Jackals used a six-run sixth inning to balloon their lead to 12-4, capped off by a two-run double from CF Arbert Cipion. The New Jersey bullpen allowed just one earned run the rest of the night, sealing their first victory of the season.

On the mound, Yuhi Sako picked up the win for New Jersey. Aaron Dona took the loss for New York.

New Jersey (1-0) will take on the New York Boulders (0-1) at Clover Stadium in Pomona, NY on Saturday night.

THUNDERBOLTS BEGIN BOBBY JENKS ERA WITH A WIN AGAINST EVANSVILLE

CRESTWOOD, IL - Bobby Jenks earned his first win as manager of Windy City, as the ThunderBolts defeated the Evansville Otters 6-5 in a walk-off victory Thursday night.
After a lengthy rain delay, it's safe to say that the ThunderBolts (1-0) did not get off to an ideal start against Otters (0-1), as the visitors tallied five runs in the top of the first inning. Evansville starting pitcher Zach Smith gave Windy City all they could handle, tossing six innings of one-run ball while allowing no walks and eight punchouts. The Otters then turned it over to the bullpen, where Leoni De La Cruz was tasked with shutting the door in the ninth. De La Cruz got the first two outs he needed for the save and faced catcher Ronnie Allen Jr. with the bases loaded and the winning run on first base. Allen tripled to the right-center field gap to clear the bases and give the T-Bolts the victory.

De La Cruz was tagged with the loss and a blown save for Evansville, with Tyler Naumann taking the victory for Windy City out of the bullpen.
The Otters will travel to Joliet to take on the Slammers and the ThunderBolts will host the Tri-City ValleyCats on Friday night. Games are available on FloSports.
