MINERS STORM BACK TO BEAT CAPITALES IN EXTRAS - FRONTIER DAILY ROUNDUP

MINERS TAKE GAME TWO AGAINST CAPITALES

QUEBEC, CAN. - The Sussex County Miners came back to beat the Québec Capitales 9-6 in 10 innings on Wednesday.

The Miners (5-6) evened the series with the Capitales (5-6) at Stade Canac after being down from the bottom of the first inning. The Miners scored first on an RBI single from DH Oraj Anu but the Capitales quickly responded with a two-run blast to put the score at 2-1.  Québec added another run on a sacrifice fly in the third. CF Alec Sayre was able to keep the Miners afloat when he tied the game with a two-run homer in the sixth. Once again, the Capitales moved back in front in the bottom of the sixth and pushed their lead to 5-3. With two outs in the ninth inning, Sussex County rallied with back-to-back RBI singles from RF Edwin Mateo and SS Willie Escala to tie the game at 5-5. After keeping the Capitales off the board, the Miners took the lead on an E4 in the tenth inning and added four total runs in the frame to come away with the victory. RHP Billy Parsons took the win out of the Sussex County bullpen, while RHP Austin Mazaros took the loss for Québec.

The Miners and Capitales will conclude their series on Thursday in Québec. First pitch is at 7:05 PM EDT.

JACKALS WALK 15 TIMES, WIN BIG AGAINST KNOCKOUTS

BROCKTON, MA - The New Jersey Jackals snapped their four-game losing streak by beating the New England Knockouts 15-7.

The Jackals (4-6) only tallied eight hits, but walked 15 times and scored 15 runs to take down the Knockouts (4-6) at Campanelli Stadium. New Jersey broke the game seal with a two-run single by RF Jordan Scott in the first inning and never trailed after that. The score was 4-3 in favor of the Jackals headed into the fourth inning, with the Knockouts steadily keeping pace. The Jackals put themselves ahead with a three-run fourth and then completely blew the doors off New England in the sixth. The Knockouts gave up eight runs in the sixth inning, six of which came via walks. The deficit was too much to overcome, and the Jackals took the game to even the series. LHP Jake Kuchmaner earned the win for New Jersey, while LHP Ben Seiler took the loss for the Knockouts.

The third game in the New Jersey-New England series will be on Thursday. First pitch for the rubber match will be at 6:30 PM EDT.

AIGLES TORCH BOULDERS, EVEN SERIES

TROIS-RIVIERES, CAN - The Trois-Rivières Aigles dismantled the New York Boulders 14-6 on Wednesday at Stade Quillorama.

The Aigles (5-5) took down the first-place Boulders (7-3) to narrow their deficit to 2.0 games in the Frontier League East division. The Boulders opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first inning, but the Aigles responded with a three-spot in the bottom half. New York made it a one-run game with a solo home run in the second, but Trois-Rivières' offense came unglued in the third, scoring six runs in the frame to make it 9-2. The offensive outburst was highlighted by a bases-clearing double by LF LP Pelletier, who finished with four RBIs and three hits on the night. The Aigle offense finished the game with 14 runs on 14 hits, giving RHP Logan Hofmann more than enough run support to ensure his first win of the season. RHP Jonah Jenkins took the loss for New York after allowing seven runs in 2.2 innings.

The Aigles and Boulders will finish their series on Wednesday at 7:05 PM EDT in Trois-Rivières.

GRIZZLIES BEAT Y'ALLS IN RAIN-SHORTENED CONTEST

FLORENCE, KY - The Gateway Grizzlies took down the Florence Y'alls 6-1 in six innings on Wednesday night.

The Grizzlies (6-5) scored in all but one inning in their weather-shortened victory over the Y'alls (4-6), and are now just 2.5 games back from Schaumburg for the Frontier League West division lead. C Kevin Krause got things rolling for Gateway, singling home a run in the top of the first to give his squad a 1-0 lead. Krause continued to do damage throughout the game, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs, including a two-run single in the sixth that eventually put the Grizzlies up 6-0. The Y'alls were only able to score once on Gateway RHP Tyler Cornett, who earned the victory after going 5.2 innings and only allowing three hits. RHP Nate Garkow got the last out of the sixth inning in relief before the umpires called the game, with the Grizzlies capturing the win. 

Gateway and Florence will conclude their series tomorrow at Thomas More Stadium in Kentucky. First pitch is at 6:44 PM EDT.

TRI-CITY STEALS SUDDEN DEATH VICTORY FROM OTTAWA

OTTAWA, CAN. - The Tri-City ValleyCats defeated the Ottawa Titans 2-1 in an 11-inning sudden-death tiebreaker.

The Titans (4-6) got the action started in the second inning with an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead. The ValleyCats (4-7) would respond in the third when RF Alec Olund doubled into the left-center field gap to score LF Javeyan Williams. Both sides were then shut out going into extra innings, and a scoreless 10th inning led the Titans to elect to defend for the sudden death tiebreaker. Olund was selected as the ghost runner, being brought around to score on a double from C Oscar Campos. RHP Nathan Medrano earned his second win of the season, going for two scoreless innings out of the bullpen while not allowing a hit. RHP Erasmo Pinales took the loss for Ottawa.

The ValleyCats and Titans will fight for the series in a Thursday morning rubber game. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM EDT.

THUNDERBOLTS BEAT CRUSHERS TO EVEN SERIES

CRESTWOOD, IL - The Windy City ThunderBolts rode two huge innings to defeat the Lake Erie Crushers 8-5 on Wednesday.

The ThunderBolts (6-6) scored five times in the third inning and three times in the seventh to take game two against the Crushers (8-3). CF Cam Phelts got on base in the first inning after a single, making it to third on a failed pickoff attempt. Phelts would try to steal home but would get thrown out to delay the game's first score. After a fielder's choice gave the Bolts their first run in the third, Phelts singled to bring home another run and make it 2-0. Windy City would rack up three more runs, capping the inning with a two-run double from LF Joe Johnson, making the score 5-0. Lake Erie responded with a four-run sixth to bring them within one, but the ThunderBolts answered right back with three runs in the seventh, including Johnson's third RBI of the game. LHP Michael Barker earned the win for Windy City while LHP Jake Eisenbarger took the loss for Lake Erie.

The ThunderBolts and Crushers will play their rubber match at Ozinga Field on Thursday, beginning at 11:35 AM EDT.

WILD THINGS WIN SEVENTH STRAIGHT

WASHINGTON, PA - The Washington Wild Things continued their winning ways, taking a 2-1 victory from the Evansville Otters on Wednesday at Wild Things Park. 

The Wild Things (7-3) now find themselves just one game out of first place in the West division after winning their seventh game in a row. The Otters (4-8) hit a solo home run in the top of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead, but Washington got the run back in the bottom half with a run scoring on a passed ball. 1B Tyreque Reed then singled through the left side in the fourth inning to give the Wild Things a one-run advantage that would last through the rest of the game. RHP Malik Barrington was excellent for Washington, pitching seven innings of one-run ball while only allowing four hits and striking out 10. RHP Zach Smith took the loss after allowing two runs in 6.2 innings.

The Wild Things will go for the series sweep against the Otters on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled at 7:05 PM EDT.

SLAMMERS TAKE DOWN FIRST-PLACE BOOMERS

JOLIET, IL - The Joliet Slammers scored three runs in three different innings to top the Schaumburg Boomers 9-5 on Wednesday in Joliet.

The Slammers (4-7) evened their series with the first-place Boomers (8-2) behind nine runs on nine hits. Schaumburg paced the game, scoring a run in each of the first two innings before Joliet responded with three runs in the bottom of the second. The Boomers then tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth, only for the Slammers to score another three runs in the fifth inning to make it 6-3. Schaumburg managed two more runs to keep pace with Joliet in the top half of the eighth, but the Slammers put the game out of reach in the bottom half when 1B Matthew Warkentin crushed a three-run bomb over the right field wall at Duly Health & Care Field. RHP Frank Plesac took the winning decision out of the Joliet bullpen. LHP Jacob Smith earned the loss for the Boomers, after letting up three runs in three innings in relief.

The Boomer and Slammers will conclude their series on Thursday in Joliet. First pitch is at 7:35 PM EDT.
