THE CHARLES J. MUTH MUSEUM AT HINCHLIFFE STADIUM OPENS IN PATERSON, NJ

THE CHARLES J. MUTH MUSEUM AT HINCHLIFFE STADIUM OPENS IN PATERSON, NJ

Fans of the New Jersey Jackals officially have one more reason to go to a game this season, and that reason is the opening of the Charles J. Muth Museum, located in Hinchliffe stadium, home to the Jackals.

The Museum opened on Thursday, April 11th at Hinchliffe Stadium representing the stadium and Negro Leagues history. It is named after Paterson native and alumni of Montclair State University, Charles Muth, who donated $5 million for the development of the facility.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted speakers including President of Montclair State University, Jonathan Koppell; the Mayor of Paterson, Andre Sayegh; and the Director of The Charles J. Muth Museum, Jessica Bush. The ceremony also featured choir performances from Paterson's Rosa L. Parks School of Fine and Performing Arts.

The museum allows for an interactive experience and tells the stories of important baseball figures such as Josh Gibson, Satchel Paige, and Larry Doby, a Paterson native and baseball Hall of Famer, who defied segregation and played a central role in the integration of baseball. Fans may also experience exhibits that include rare artifacts and jerseys that helped shape the history of baseball, informative stories on a variety of players and important dates, and a virtual look at the era of midget car racing at the stadium.

The museum will be open-by-appointment-only through May 8th, and then will open to New Jersey Jackals ticket holders one hour before game time beginning May 9, the day of the Jackals' 2024 home opener. This gives fans an extra reason to come early and immerse themselves in the rich history of Hinchliffe Stadium. In addition, school groups coming to the Jackals' Education Days will get a tour of the museum as part of their trip. Regular hours of business will be announced in the near future.

If you have any questions about the museum or would like to donate any Hinchliffe memorabilia you may have, please reach out to the museum at contact@thehinchliffestadium.com.
