KNOCKOUTS ADD FLAMETHROWER BRITO TO PITCHING STAFF

The New England Knockouts have signed right-handed pitcher Richard Brito to a Frontier League contract. Brito was a professional free agent prior to the signing. 

Brito, now 25 years old, joins the Knockouts after three and a half years in minor league baseball. The 6-4, 190-pounder signed a minor-league contract with the New York Mets in July of 2020. The Mets were drawn to Brito after he clocked a fastball just north of 100 miles per hour. 

After signing, Brito spent the next two years in the DSL (Dominican Summer League) Mets system. After injuries took him off the field, Brito eventually was assigned to the Mets' Florida Complex League roster. In 2022, Brito threw three ⅔ innings with the FCL Mets, holding a 2.45 ERA and five strikeouts. 

His last stop with the Mets was in November of 2023, where he was assigned to the Caribes de Anzoáteguiari, a professional baseball team in his native country of Venezuela. In the nine appearances he played, Brito produced a 4.91 ERA with six strikeouts. 

Brito is originally from the city of Caracas, Venezuela. With a population of over two million people, the Venezuelan farmhand quickly caught the eyes of Major League scouts. His fastball caught a ceiling of 102 miles per hour, one of the fastest recorded velocities out of the country.

The Knockouts are set to open their inaugural season on Friday, May 10th against the Ottawa Titans. Tickets for opening day can be purchased at https://tickets.knockoutsbaseball.com.
