JACKALS TAKE DOUBLEHEADER OVER TITANS - FRONTIER DAILY ROUNDUP

JACKALS SWEEP TITANS IN DOUBLEHEADER

PATERSON, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals swept the Ottawa Titans in a Wednesday night doubleheader at Yogi Berra Stadium, with 2-0 and 4-3 final scores.

The Jackals (3-2) are now in a three-way tie for the lead in the Frontier League East Division after taking two games from the Titans (2-3). In the first game, LHP Jake Kuchmaner dominated by throwing six shutout innings with six strikeouts. The only offense to speak of came courtesy of DH Camden Williamson, whose two-run blast in the fourth proved to be enough offense to get a New Jersey win. RHP Roniel Raudes got a scoreless top of the seventh to earn him the save. LHP Bryan Peña was solid for the Titans, striking out eight in five full innings, but Williamson's home run gave him the loss.

In the second game, there was more offense for both sides. The Titans started the scoring off with a bang, as C Michael Furman's solo homer in the third inning gave Ottawa an early lead. The Jackals responded immediately in the bottom half on an RBI double by 2B Luis Acevado. The Jackals would get down again 3-1 in the next inning but would come back to tie the game again in the fifth on a two-run double from 1B Edwin Tavarez. In the sixth, the Jackals were able to take their first lead of the contest after C Frank Nigro sent a solo home run that proved to be a winner. New Jersey put up 10 total hits against Ottawa starter Tyler Jandron. Jackals LHP Joe Testa went six innings in his start, allowing three runs en route to a victory.

The Jackals will host the New York Boulders on Friday, with a 6:35 PM EDT first pitch. The Titans will travel to Augusta for a Friday night date with the Sussex County Miners. First pitch for that game is scheduled for 7:05 PM EDT.

CRUSHERS BRING OUT THE BROOMS VS. SLAMMERS

AVON, OH - The Lake Erie Crushers finished a three-game sweep of the Joliet Slammers at Crusher Stadium on Thursday.

The Crushers (5-1) are now tied with the Schaumburg Boomers for the best record in the league, after completing a sweep of the Joliet Slammers (2-4). Lake Erie's win against Joliet did not come easily, as Crushers LHP Jack Eisenbarger and Joliet's RHP Ricky Castro went back and forth in a close game, giving up only one run apiece. The Crushers were able to get through on Castro when 2B Ethan Skender sent a rope down the right field line for a home run in the third inning. The Slammers would tie the game with an RBI single in the fourth, but the Crushers kept their composure and managed three runs in the eighth to give themselves a more comfortable 4-1 lead. RHP Trevor Kuncl would finish off the game for Lake Erie, though not cleanly; the Crusher closer would give up a solo home run but that was the lone hit Joliet could muster as Kuncl finished the save. The win was Lake Erie's fifth in a row, tying Schaumburg for longest winning streak this season.

The Crushers will begin another series at home against the Québec Capitales on Friday at 7:05 PM EDT. The Slammers will travel to Evansville on Friday to meet the Otters for the second time this season. First pitch is scheduled at 7:35 PM EDT.

MINERS AND CAPITALES SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER

AUGUSTA, NJ - The Québec Capitales and the Sussex County Miners met for two games at Skyland Stadium on Thursday, splitting the decisions evenly.

The Capitales (3-3) were able to take the first game against the Miners (2-4) by a final score of 7-2. Québec would tag Sussex County RHP Jose Ledesma Jr. for six runs on six hits. 1B Anthony Quirion capped the night with a solo home run, his first of the season. RHP Abdiel Saldana, fresh off the Capitales inactive list, went five innings and only allowed two runs on four hits in his first win of the season.

In the second game, the Miners were able to flip the script on the Capitales by beating them 7-2. The Miners' offense came out hot, scoring four runs in the first three innings and forcing RHP Yusneil Padron from the game after allowing seven hits and three walks. The Miners would pile on in the fifth, scoring three more times thanks to three more base hits. Sussex County 1B Oraj Anu picked up three hits and an RBI in the win, bringing his average to .333 for the year.

The Miners will host the Titans Friday at 7:05 PM EDT while the Capitales travel to Lake Erie to take on the Crushers. Québec-Lake Erie will begin at 7:05 PM EDT.

OTTERS TAKE FINALE FROM GRIZZLIES

EVANSVILLE, IN - The Evansville Otters used a big fifth inning to take the Friday night series finale over the Gateway Grizzlies, 6-2.

The Otters (2-5) were the benefactors of some excellent pitching in their win over the Grizzlies (3-3) at Bosse Field. Starting RHP Parker Brahms allowed just two runs in his six complete innings of work, complemented with six strikeouts. The Grizzlies briefly took the lead from Brahms in the fourth, but Evansville was able to pour on five straight runs to put Gateway to bed. RF Randy Bednar had the highlight of the night when he launched his second home run in as many days to put the lead at 6-2. Brahms earned the win for Evansville while RHP Deylen Miley got the loss for the Grizzlies.

Evansville will play host to the Joliet Slammers on Friday, with the first pitch at 7:35 PM EDT. The Grizzlies will return home to host the Windy City ThunderBolts on Friday at 7:30 PM EDT.

Y'ALLS OFFENSE BURIES T-BOLTS

CRESTWOOD, IL - The Florence Y'alls got their offense rolling again, to the tune of an 8-1 victory over the Windy City ThunderBolts at Ozinga Field.

After splitting two consecutive one-run games in Crestwood, the Y'alls (4-2) put on an offensive display to take the rubber match and the series against the ThunderBolts (3-4). The Y'alls were able to take an early 1-0 lead, but the Bolts were able to keep Florence under wraps until the fourth inning. The Y'alls were able to score three runs with two outs in the fifth inning, starting with an RBI bloop single from CF Ashton Creal. 3B Tim Borden followed up with a two-run double to make it 4-0. Things continued to go the Y'alls' way, as reigning Player Of The Week DH Zade Richardson cranked a two-run home run over the left field wall, which gave Florence a 7-0 advantage. The pitching from Florence LHP Jonaiker Villablos was also excellent, as he was able to pitch out of multiple jams in his six innings of work. Villablos gave up seven hits but surrendered one run in the win, his first of the year. The Bolts ended up leaving 12 on base and going 3-for-15 with men in scoring position.

The Y'alls will continue their Illinois road trip Friday at 7:30 PM EDT when they visit the Schaumburg Boomers. The ThunderBolts will hit the road to begin a series with the Gateway Grizzlies on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 PM EDT.
