BOULDERS TAKE OPENER AGAINST MINERS - FRONTIER DAILY ROUNDUP

BOULDERS' OFFENSE LEAVES MINERS IN THE DUST

PONOMA, NY - The New York Boulders took down the Sussex County Miners 10-3 at Clover Stadium on Tuesday.

The Boulders (15-6) halted their brief losing streak by scoring 10 runs on 15 hits against the Miners (10-12). The Miners took an early 1-0 lead in the first, but New York had an answer to tie the game in the form of a sacrifice fly from LF David Vinsky. The Boulder offense heated up in the fifth, scoring three runs to take a 4-1 lead. After giving up two runs in the top half of the sixth, the hot stretch continued for New York with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth and three more in the seventh. Vinsky put the finishing touches on the game when he sent a solo shot to left to put the game at 10-3. LHP Mitchell Senger earned the win with two earned runs in six innings, complimented by six strikeouts. Fellow southpaw Mike Reagan took the loss for Sussex County.

The Miners and Boulders will be in action again on Wednesday at 7:00 PM EDT.

KNOCKOUTS TAKE SUDDEN DEATH OPENER FROM CAPITALES

BROCKTON, MA - The New England Knockouts defeated the Québec Capitales in a sudden death tiebreaker on Tuesday to open their series at Campanelli Stadium.

The Knockouts (7-14) were able to turn the tide of the game, overcoming a 4-0 deficit to take down the Capitales (9-12). Down four in the fourth inning, New England showed some life by cutting into the Québec lead with a two-run single from 2B Jake Boone. The Captiales were able to get a run back in the fifth, but the Knockouts were able to take advantage of two balls getting past the pitcher to tie the game at 5-5. In the ninth, both sides exchanged solo home runs to put the game at 6-6 headed into extras. With both teams again able to score a run and extend the game, the contest entered sudden death where the Knockouts chose to play defense. New England saw the go-ahead run advance to second base, but the ball never left the infield as the Knockouts sealed the series-opening victory. 

The Knockouts and Capitales will face off for game two of their series on Wednesday. First pitch for the middle game is scheduled for 6:30 PM EDT.

MCNEELY'S GRAND SLAM LIFTS WILD THINGS OVER THUNDERBOLTS

WASHINGTON, PA - The Washington Wild Things took the series opener against the Windy City ThunderBolts at Wild Things Park by a final score of 8-2. 

With the win, Washington (15-6) continues to pace the Frontier League West division and is currently seven games ahead of the ThunderBolts (9-14) in the standings. The Wild Things played small ball to take the lead in the bottom of the first, with an RBI groundout to jump out 1-0. CF Caleb McNeely repeated the RBI groundout result in the second inning to make it 2-0, with RF Robert Chayka driving in another run with a ground-rule double in the third. McNeely put some serious distance between his team and the ThunderBolts when he crushed a grand slam to right field and ballooned the Washington lead to 7-0. A light Windy City response came to pass in the seventh, but an extra insurance run put the Bolts to bed. LHP Kobe Foster gave six shutout innings in his win for the Wild Things, only allowing three hits while punching out eight. RHP Buddie Pindel was knocked out of the game after four innings, taking the loss after giving up the game's first three runs. 

The Wild Things and ThunderBolts will continue their series on Wednesday. First pitch for their second game is scheduled for 6:05 PM EDT.

EVANSVILLE SILENCES LAKE ERIE IN SERIES OPENER 

EVANSVILLE, IN - The  Evansville Otters took down the Lake Erie Crushers 3-1 on Tuesday night at Bosse Field. 

The Otters (7-15) have won two of their last three against some of the top teams in their division. After 5.5 innings, the Otters were stuck in a scoreless tie, due to a pair of rock-solid starting pitching performances. In the bottom of the fifth, Evansville was finally able to break through, with LF Randy Bednar's RBI double into the right-center field gap. The Crushers (13-9) were able to even up the score in the eighth with a solo home run, but DH Mike Peabody was able to drive in two runs with his double in the bottom of the eighth to take a 3-1 lead. Despite not getting a decision, LHP Braden Scott was impressive in his six-inning start for the Otters, going for six scoreless innings and ringing up 10 strikeouts. RHP Jon Beymer took home the win for Evansville while RHP Michael McAvene got the save. RHP Sammy Tavarez got the loss.

The Otters and Crushers will continue their series on Wednesday. First pitch for the middle game of their series is scheduled for 1:05 PM EDT.

BOOMERS OUTLAST Y'ALLS

SCHAUMBURG, IL - The Schaumburg Boomers took down down the Florence Y'alls 8-6 on Tuesday.

The Boomers (15-6) remain in first place in the Frontier League West division after their win over the Y'alls (7-13) at Wintrust Field. The game was packed with offense, with the two teams combining for 14 runs on 19 hits while seeing three different lead changes. The Boomers started things off in the second inning when SS Tyler Depreta-Johnson drove in two runs on a base hit to left. After falling behind 4-2, the Boomers were able to tie the game on a two-run single from CF Brett Milazzo in the fourth; Milazzo later came around to score on a wild pitch to give Schaumburg the lead back. The Y'alls were able to tie the game at 6-6 in the seventh, but the Boomers put them in the rearview with two more runs in the bottom of the seventh. RHP Dylan Stutsman earned the win in relief while RHP Jake Joyce picked up his sixth save in the winning effort. RHP Ross Thompson took the loss for Florence.

The Boomers and Y'alls will continue their series on Wednesday in Schaumburg. First pitch for Wednesday's game is scheduled for 7:30 PM EDT.

SLAMMERS TROUNCE AIGLES TO TAKE GAME ONE

JOLIET, IL - The Joliet Slammers crushed the Trois-Rivières Aigles 10-3 in the series opener on Tuesday.

The Slammers (9-13) used a big fifth inning to take down the Aigles (11-10). RF Jonathan Sierra was able to give Joliet a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the first, only to watch it slip away as the Aigles scored four in the second. The game was locked at 4-1 until the bottom of the fifth when the Slammers were able to string together six hits and push across six runs to retake the lead at 6-4. Joliet was able to tack on three more runs the following inning, pushing their advantage to six runs that would carry through the rest of the game. Sierra led the team in hits, going 3-for-5 with a team-high three RBIs. RHP Jake Armstrong got the win while RHP Tucker Ross took the loss.

The Slammers will host their second game against the Aigles at Duly Health & Care Field on Wednesday. First pitch is at 7:35 PM EDT.

TRI-CITY GETS ROAD WIN IN JERSEY

PATERSON, NJ - The Tri-City ValleyCats conquered the New Jersey Jackals in a 7-5 contest on Tuesday.

Hinchcliffe Stadium did not give much of a home-field advantage for the Jackals (9-12). The ValleyCats (11-11) led the entire game, beginning in the first inning when 1B Lamar Briggs knocked in the game's first run with an RBI double. Up 2-0 in the fourth, C Chris Burgess extended the lead to 3-0 with a solo homer. Over the next two innings, the Jackals were able to tie the game at 3-3, but Burgess' second home run of the game would put the ValleyCats back out in front in the sixth. New Jersey was not able to catch up after that, even with a small rally in the eighth. RHP Chas Cywin took the win for the ValleyCats, while RHP Nathan Medrano was able to earn the save over the last 2.1 innings. LHP Jake Kuchmaner earned the loss for New Jersey.

The ValleyCats will play the Jackals for the second game of the series on Wednesday. First pitch at Hinchcliffe is at 11:35 AM EDT.

TITANS GIVE GRIZZLIES SECOND LOSS IN THREE GAMES

OTTAWA, CAN. - The Ottawa Titans scored six runs in the fifth inning to overcome the Gateway Grizzlies 7-3.

The Titans (10-11) have now won three of their last four games. Gateway (14-8) took the initial lead with a two-run homer in the fourth, only to have Ottawa's RF Jake Sanford respond with a solo bomb in the bottom half to cut the deficit to one. SS Christian Ibarra was then able to kick off a huge two-out rally in the fifth with a game-tying home run. With two outs, the Titans were able to bat around and let Ibarra put the cap on the six-run outburst with an RBI single to left. The Grizzlies were able to score one more run, but would ultimately fall 7-3 at Titan Stadium. LHP Grant Larson picked up his second win of the season for Ottawa, while RHP Deylen Miley got the loss for Gateway.

The Grizzlies and Titans will play the second game of their series on Wednesday at 11:00 AM EDT.
