WRITTEN BY: MIKE GUISTOLISE

Y'ALLS WALK OFF WITH GRAND SLAM

FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Y'alls walked off the Schaumburg Boomers 8-7 with a grand slam on Wednesday afternoon.

RF TJ Reeves crushed a no-doubt grand slam in the bottom of the ninth to send Y'alls (17-23) fans home happy. The Boomers (25-16) scored in the first, but Florence made quick work on their lead, tying the game in the bottom half. SS Alberti Chavez then homered in the second to give the Y'alls their first lead. Schaumburg responded by going on an offensive tear in the sixth inning, retaking the lead with a five-run outburst. The Y'alls managed to cut the lead down to three but the Boomers were able to push their lead to four with a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth, seemingly sealing the game for another series win. Staring down RHP Jake Joyce in the last of the ninth, the Y'alls were able to load the bases with two outs on a walk. Joyce walked the next batter, bringing home a run while putting the tying run on base. Reeves stepped up and on a 2-1 count, sent the ball high and deep over the left field wall, never doubting that it was the game-winner. RHP Ben Terwilliger earned the win for Florence while Joyce took the loss.

The Y'alls and Boomers will fight for the series in a rubber game on Thursday at Thomas More Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:44 PM EDT.

CAPITALES TAKE PITCHERS' DUEL, WITHIN HALF A GAME OF FIRST

QUEBEC CITY, CAN. Despite being outhit, The Québec Capitales defeated the Sussex County Miners 1-0 on Wednesday night at Stade Canac.

The Capitales (27-14) are now within a half-game of first place in the Frontier League East division and could take the top spot with a win and a New York loss. The Miners (14-26) threatened to score in the first inning with the bases loaded, but that would turn out to be their best scoring opportunity the entire game. The only run scored in the third inning when CF Jonathan Lacroix crossed the plate on a passed ball. Québec only registered one hit past that point, as both bullpens found themselves in a stalemate. The Capitales got the last laugh in the ninth, leaving the tying run stranded on second base.
