ZACH SMITH WINS PITCHER OF THE WEEK!
JUNE 24, 2024 - Zach Smith of the Evansville Otters has won the Frontier League Player of the Week award.
Right-handed pitcher Zach Smith took the Pitcher of the Week award with a clutch deadline performance, tossing a complete game shutout for the Evansville Otters on Sunday night while amassing a career-high 14 punchouts. Smith's 14th strikeout came on his 121st pitch of the night, completing the shutout on an offspeed pitch that danced away from the hitter's swing.
Smith is currently in his third season with Evansville and the Frontier League, after coming over from the Pioneer League in 2022. The win on Sunday marked the 11th of his career and lowered his season ERA to a respectable 3.48. Smith has improved on his strikeout numbers this season with a career-best 8.78 K/9 while compiling nearly double the strikeouts to walks allowed.
