OTTERS' OFFENSE OBLITERATES OPPONENTS - FRONTIER DAILY ROUNDUP

OTTERS' HUGE OFFENSIVE DAY SILENCES GRIZZLIES

SAUGET, IL - On Saturday night, the Evansville Otters defeated the Gateway Grizzlies 21-4 at Grizzlies Ballpark.

The Otters (6-14) posted 21 runs on 23 hits in their huge win over the Grizzlies (13-7). 3B Jomar Reyes got Evansville on the board immediately in the first inning with an RBI double. After the Grizzlies tied in the bottom half of the inning, the Otters took the lead back with their first of four home runs in the game and the first of two from LF Randy Bednar. Gateway would tie the game once again in the bottom of the fourth at 3-3, but Evansville then went on a basketball-like 18-0 run in the innings to follow. Bednar and CF Mason White combined for seven hits and eight RBIs; Bednar and RF Mike Peabody both homered twice. LHP Johan Castillo picked up the win after going seven full innings for Evansville. Ryan Moore took the loss.

The Otters and Grizzlies will play their series finale on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 PM EDT.

OTTAWA SETS FRANCHISE SCORING RECORD IN WIN OVER T-BOLTS

OTTAWA, CAN. - The Ottawa Titans went on an offensive tear, beating the Windy City ThunderBolts 17-5 on Saturday night at Titans Stadium.

The Titans (9-10) set a new franchise record in scoring in their win over the ThunderBolts (8-13) while also capturing the series. Ottawa found itself down 4-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning when C Michael Fuhrman gave the home side their first score on a solo homer to left field. The Titans would then put up seven runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and eight in the seventh to bury the ThunderBolts. 1B Jamey Smart went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two walks while Fuhrman was a triple away from hitting for the cycle. Seven different Titans tallied at least one RBI and four had two or more. RHP Colton Huntt took the loss for Windy City while RHP Brooks Walton earned the win for Ottawa.

The Titans will look for the series sweep against the ThunderBolts on Sunday. First pitch in the series finale is scheduled for 1:00 PM EDT.

VALLEYCATS BLANK KNOCKOUTS

TROY, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats shut out the New England Knockouts 10-0 at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Saturday night.

The ValleyCats (10-10) got a complete game shutout from RHP Jhon Vargas to mark their fourth win in a row. Tri-City scored early against New England (5-15), taking a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly from LF Javeyon Williams in the first inning. After a solo shot from 1B Kyle Novak in the fourth, Williams hit another sac fly in the sixth to make the lead 3-0. The ValleyCats' offense took off in the later innings, tallying four runs in the seventh and three in the eighth to push their lead into double digits. Williams and SS Tyson Gingerich combined for five RBIs behind Vargas's nine-inning seven-strikeout performance. RHP Matt Cronin walked away with the loss for the Knockouts.

The ValleyCats will look for the series sweep on Sunday. First pitch is at 5:00 PM EDT.

SCHAUMBURG'S OFFENSE BOOMS LATE TO BEAT AIGLES

TROIS-RIVIERES, CAN. - The Schaumburg Boomers relied on a late comeback to defeat the Trois-Rivières Aigles 12-4 at Stade Quillorama on Saturday.

The Boomers (13-6) used a huge eighth inning to steal a game from the Aigles (11-8) on the road. The game remained scoreless into the fourth when Trois-Rivières put together back-to-back RBI base hits. RF Christian Fedko tied the game in the top sixth with a two-run home run before the Aigles took back the lead with a two-run bomb of their own in the bottom half. The Boomers were able to get a run back in the seventh, with a run scoring on a double play. Things took off Schaumburg in the eighth when the Boomers were able to bat around and post seven runs to take a 10-4 lead. 3B Seth Gray continued to pad his team lead in RBIs, beginning the scoring outburst with a two-run single to bring his season RBI total to 21. RHP Dylan Stutsman got the win in relief for Schaumburg while LHP Harry Rutkowski took the loss for Trois-Rivières.

The Aigles and Boomers will finish their series on Sunday to determine the series winner. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM EDT.

CAPITALES TAKE DOWN BOULDERS IN EXTRAS

PONOMA, NY - The Québec Capitales defeated the New York Boulders 8-7 in 10 innings on Saturday.

Québec (9-11) forced the Boulders (14-5) into extra innings for the first time this season, outlasting their hosts at Clover Stadium to even the series. The Capitales were able to build a 2-0 lead after scoring in the first two innings, but a two-run single from the Boulders in the third tied the game. After a passed ball allowed Québec to take a 3-2 lead, C Tyler Osik cracked a two-run single to increase the lead to 5-2 in the top of the fifth. New York swooped in to steal the lead right back in the bottom half, posting four runs to make it 6-5. SS Kyle Crowl was able to tie the game in the following inning, locking the game at 6-6, where the score would stay until the game was forced into extra innings. 3B Jake MacKenzie was able to give the Capitales the lead when he hit a ball to the outfield that was then dropped. MacKenzie later scored on a passed ball to make it 8-6. RHP Frank Moscatiello allowed only one run in the final two innings to earn his fourth win of the year. RHP Peter Allegro took the loss for New York.

The Capitales and Boulders will finish their series in New York on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 PM EDT.

Y'ALLS TAKE DOWN WILD THINGS TO EVEN SERIES

FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Y'alls walked off the Washington Wild Things 8-7 in 10 innings on Saturday night. 

After losing the opener at Thomas More Stadium on Friday, the Y'alls (7-11) evened their series with the Wild Things (13-6) with an extra-innings thriller. SS Alberti Chavez led the game off with a homer to give Florence an early 1-0 lead. Washington responded with a home run in the top of the second to tie the game, but 2B Langston Ginder's solo shot in the bottom half gave the Y'alls the lead right back. Florence got an additional homer and another RBI to increase their lead to 4-1, but the Wild Things retook the lead with a four-run fourth.  C Hank Zeisler gave the Y'alls another lead with his two-run bomb in the fifth, but a late sacrifice fly from Washington tied the game and the game went into extra innings. In the 10th, Ginder came through with a sacrifice fly to give Florence the win. RHP Ben Terwilliger earned the win for the Y'alls while RHP Gyeongju Kim got tagged with the loss.

The Y'alls and Wild Things will conclude their series on Sunday. First pitch for their series finale is scheduled for 1:07 PM EDT.

MINERS RIDE HOT START TO WIN OVER JACKALS

AUGUSTA, NJ - The Sussex County Miners beat the New Jersey Jackals 8-5 on Saturday.

The Miners (9-11) used a big third inning to cruise to a win over their interstate rival. The Jackals (9-10) struck first with a two-run double in the top of the third inning, but the Miners responded with a five-run bottom half in which they sent 11 batters to the plate. A balk in the fourth allowed a run to score, while an error in the sixth on a single from DH Oraj Anu Sussex County's lead to grow to 7-2. The Miners capped their offensive output with a sacrifice fly in the sixth, making the score 8-2. The Jackals would attempt a comeback, including scoring two runs in the ninth, but Sussex County was able to achieve victory. RHP Yuki Sako ended up with the loss for New Jersey. RHP Jose Ledesma Jr. earned his second win of the year in the start for the Miners.

The Jackals and Miners will conclude their series at Skylands Stadium on Sunday afternoon. First pitch for the series finale is scheduled for 2:05 PM EDT.
