KNOCKOUTS ADD VETERAN HURLER O'SULLIVAN
The New England Knockouts have signed right-handed pitcher Liam O'Sullivan to a Frontier League contract. O'Sullivan was a professional free agent prior to the signing.
O'Sullivan, 33 years old, joins New England with an extensive resumé. Prior to the Knockouts, O'Sullivan spent the entirety of 2023 in the Atlantic League. His season began with the High Point Rockers, pitching in 37 innings and helping them claim the first half (South Division) title. O'Sullivan finished the year with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, producing a 4.85 ERA in over 85 innings of work. He also finished with a 9-5 record in Maryland.
Along with the Atlantic League, Liam O'Sullivan carries years of expertise in independent baseball. His career began in the Frontier League, pitching for the Frontier Greys in 2015 and the Joliet Slammers from 2016-2018. O'Sullivan also threw for the Somerset Patriots (2019) and Lexington Legends (2021) in the Atlantic League. In total, O'Sullivan carries a career 4.77 ERA with over 150 strikeouts across seven seasons of indy-ball.
In between seasons in the United States, O'Sullivan has also played overseas. During the 2019-20 stretch, O'Sullivan signed into the Australian Baseball League. There, he would pitch for the Brisbane Bandits and the Melbourne Aces. Between the two teams, O'Sullivan pitched 41 innings with an average ERA of 4.51. In the same year, O'Sullivan also pitched in the Mexico Pacific Winter League, appearing sporadically over 12.2 innings.
O'Sullivan, originally from Worcester, MA, began his baseball career in college. His time began at the University of Rhode Island, where he would only throw in three innings and allow four hits. He eventually transferred to Saint Leo University in Florida. Over two seasons with the Lions, O'Sullivan threw in over 170 innings, combining for 144 strikeouts and just 19 hits allowed.
