JACKALS ADD THREE FELICIAN UNIVERSITY GRADUATES
We welcome three LOCAL players to Jackals Nation! Each went to Felician University.
RHP Michael Gutierrez, from Garfield High School, pitched for the Golden Falcons from 2018-2022. Gutierrez was the fourth Felician baseball player, and first pitcher, to earn All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference honors four times. The 2018 CACC Rookie of the Year, he completed his college career with a 17-21 record and 3.74 ERA over 58 games (42 starts). His 328 strikeouts and 11.71 strikeouts per nine innings are both school records.
1B Edwin Tavarez, from Garfield High School, played at Felician from 2020-2023 after starting his college career at ASA Brooklyn. Tavarez posted a career .319 batting average with 118 RBI, a .960 ops, and 12 stolen bases. He was named Centaral Athletic Collegiate Cponference First Team in 2023
LHP Wilfrido Valenzuela, from Paterson Eastside High School, finished his collegiate eligibility at Felician after playing four seasons for Bloomfield University. Valenzuela joined Tavares on the CACC First Team in 2023, when seta a conference record with 110 strikeouts and finished second with his 2.82 ERA. He was selected CACC Tournament Most Valuable Player last spring.
