WASHINGTON INKS DEAL WITH VETERAN INFIELDER JALEN MILLER
Veteran infielder Jalen Miller, a former farmhand of the Braves and Giants, has signed a deal with the Wild Things in a transaction presented by McClellands Contracting and Roofing, LLC, Pittsburgh's #1 roofing company.
A former third-round pick (2015) by the Giants, Miller split time in 2023 with the York Revolution and Charleston Dirty Birds in the Atlantic League. In 110 games between the teams (90 played with Charleston), he slugged 12 homers, 32 doubles and drove in 51. His slash line was .262/.308/.443, while he spent time in left field and at second base. The bulk of his defensive work came at second, where he posted a .974 fielding percentage and factored in on 48 double plays.
Miller was picked by the Giants in 2015 out of Riverwood International Charter School and played from 2015 through 2019 in that organization. In 2015, he drove in 13 in 44 games with the Arizona League Giants (Rookie Ball) before making the move to Augusta in 2016 (A ball). There he clubbed five homers and drove in 44 with 102 hits in 112 games. In 2017 and 2018, Miller played with San Jose (A+), where he combined to play 240 games, hit 60 doubles, 20 homers and drove in 106. He played with Richmond (AA) in 2019 and drove in 48 runs with 11 homers, 18 doubles and three triples. He also posted an MiLB-career best 27 stolen bases that year.
The Georgia native was swiped by the Atlanta Braves in the Triple-A portion of the Rule 5 draft in December of 2020. He played two seasons with Double-A Mississippi in the Braves' farm system. In 2021, he hit nine home runs and drove in 29 and in 2022, Miller hit eight homers, had 22 doubles and 44 RBI to along with 17 stolen bases.
He was a mid-season All Star in 2018 with San Jose, a postseason All Star that year and a mid-season All Star in 2019 with Richmond. The 2024 season will be Miller's ninth in professional baseball and second in Indy Ball. The 27-year old figures to be havily in the mix at second base for the Wild Things, who open camp April 25.
