BOULDERS TAKE SERIES WITH A WALK-OFF WIN! - FRONTIER DAILY ROUNDUP

BOULDERS WALK OFF KNOCKOUTS IN EXTRAS

PONOMA, NY - The New York Boulders won an extra-innings thriller against the New England Knockouts on Saturday, by a final score of 4-3.

It took 10 innings, but the Boulders (26-11) were able to send the fans at Clover Stadium home happy with a walk-off win against the Knockouts (11-26). New England broke through first in the third inning with an RBI single, then added another in the fourth on a fielder's choice. 3B Chris Kwitzer took a run back with an RBI groundout in the last of the fourth, cutting the score down to 2-1. C Joe DeLuca then tied the game in the sixth with his RBI single. The Knockouts were able to take a 3-2 on an error in the eighth, but the Boulders were able to even things up with two outs in the ninth to send the game into extras. In the bottom of the 10th, the bases were loaded for DeLuca, who proceeded to drive the ball into right field to drive home the winning run for New York. RHP Dylan Smith picked up the win after striking out three in the top half of the 10th. RHP Reeves Martin took the loss for New England. 

The Boulders will look to sweep the series on Sunday. First pitch for the finale is set for 3:00 PM EDT.

OTTERS SCORE SIX IN THE SEVENTH, OUTLAST T-BOLTS

EVANSVILLE, IN - The Evansville Otters used a huge seventh inning to take down the Windy City ThunderBolts 10-9 at Bosse Field on Saturday night. 

This was a game of runs, with the Otters (15-23) having the last word against the Bolts (16-23). Evansville established an early lead in the bottom of the first, scoring three with RBIs from LF Randy Bednar, 1B Logan Brown, and 3B David Mendham. The ThunderBolts were able to get on the board with a run in the second, but the Otters took it right back with an RBI single in the fourth. Windy City then took control of the game in the fifth, scoring four runs to take its first lead at 5-4. The T-Bolts continued to pour it on in the seventh, eventually working their lead up to 8-4. The Otters responded in the bottom of the seventh with a six-run outburst, including another RBI for both Brown and Mendham, to retake the lead at 10-8. Evansville gave up one more run but was able to hold on to take the middle game to even the series. LHP Grif Hughes picked up the win in relief while two-way player Pavin Parks earned his first save this season. RHP Jack Mahoney took the loss.

The Otters and ThunderBolts will play their series finale rubber match on Sunday at 6:05 PM EDT.

JACKALS USE EARLY LEAD TO HALT QUEBEC'S WINNING STREAK

PATERSON, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals put an end to the Québec Capitales' 12-game winning streak with a 7-5 victory at Hinchcliffe Stadium. 

After their double-digit losing streak was recently snapped, the Jackals (13-26) have taken two of their last three against two of the top teams in the Frontier League East division. Québec (24-14) opened the game with a lead-off home run, but New Jersey responded with back-to-back RBI singles from C Frank Nigro and LF Camden Williamson in the bottom half to take a 2-1 lead. RF Xavier Valentin crushed a homer in the third to increase the lead to 3-1, only to be outdone by DH Arbert Cipion's three-run blast in the fourth. The Capitales would home in the sixth and seventh to trim their deficit down to three, but SS Kevin Rolon pushed the lead back out to four with his RBI double in the seventh. Québec's late push would come up short. RHP Dylan Sabia earned his first win of the season while RHP Dazon Cole picked up the save. RHP Sam Ryan took the loss for the visitors. 

The Jackals and Capitales will play a rubber game on Sunday in New Jersey, beginning at 4:35 PM EDT. 

BOOMERS EVEN SERIES WITH WILD THINGS

SCHAUMBURG, IL - The Schaumburg Boomers evened their series with the Washington Wild Things with a 7-3 victory at Wintrust Field on Saturday. 

The Boomers (23-14) were able to come back and take the middle game against the Wild Things (24-13) after falling behind early. Washington blasted a two-run homer after a game-opening walk to put Schaumburg on the defensive early. It wasn't until the third inning that the Boomers were able to respond, in the form of an RBI triple from RF Christian Fedko. 3B Will Prater then tied the game in the fourth with an RBI double. The Wild Things reestablished a one-run lead in the fifth, another Prater RBI in the sixth wiped it out. In the eighth, CF Chase Dawson came through with a huge three-run bomb to give Schaumburg their first lead at 6-3. Prater capped his big day with a solo shot later in the same inning to make it 7-3. RHP Mitch White got the win out of the Boomer bullpen while RHP Justin Goossen-Brown walked away with the loss.

The Boomers and Wild Things will battle for the series win in a rubber match on Sunday. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM EDT.

GRIZZLIES WIN THIRD ONE-RUN GAME IN A ROW

SAUGET, IL - The Gateway Grizzlies won a close 3-2 game against the Lake Erie Crushers to win the series at Grizzlies Ballpark on Saturday.

For the third game in a row, the Grizzlies (22-15) took a game from one of the top teams in the Frontier League West division. Now, with a win on Sunday and a Washington loss, Gateway could move up into third place while being just a game out of second. The Crushers (23-15) struck first in the second inning with an RBI groundout. The Grizzlies responded quickly, tying the game in the bottom half on an RBI single from 2B Gabe Holt; they later took the lead with a run scoring on a double play. Lake Erie evened things up in the fifth inning with a solo homer, but Gateway again took the lead back in the bottom of the inning, thanks to a solo home run from RF Kyle Gaedele. The lead lasted through the remainder of the game, while RHP Nate Garkow closed things out in the ninth for his first save of the year. LHP Kaleb Hill took the win for the Grizzlies while RHP Mulhearn got the loss.

The Grizzlies will attempt to earn an important series sweep on Sunday. First pitch for the series finale is scheduled for 2:05 PM EDT.

Y'ALLS CRUSH SLAMMERS TO EVEN SERIES

JOLIET, IL - The Florence Y'alls blasted the Joliet Slammers 14-3 on Saturday night at Duly Health & Care Field to even the series.

After getting shut out in the opener on Friday, the Y'alls (15-21) responded with a big-time offensive day against the Slammers (17-21) to tie the series at one game apiece. DH Zade Richardson started things in the second inning with an RBI single up the middle to give Florence a 1-0 lead. The Y'alls' offense continued to hum in the third, beginning with 1B Hank Ziesler's two-run double that pushed the lead to 3-0. 3B Brian Fuentes followed with an RBI single. The Slammers managed to post three runs in the third to cut it to 5-3, but the Y'alls would answer with nine straight runs to silence the crowd in Joliet. Ziesler and Fuentes combined for seven RBIs while SS Alberti Chavez cracked his second home run of the season in the ninth inning. LHP Randy Abshier earned his second win of the season while veteran RHP Zac Westcott took the loss for Joliet.

The Y'alls and Slammers are now set up for a rubber match to determine the series on Sunday. First pitch is set for 2:05 PM EDT.

AIGLES CONTINUE TO ROLL, TAKE SERIES FROM TITANS

TROIS-RIVIERES, CAN. - The Trois-Rivières Aigles earned their third consecutive win with their 7-4 victory over the Ottawa Titans on Saturday night. 

The Aigles (20-17) and Titans (20-17) are now tied for third place in the East, with Sunday's game determining who walks into next week with the lead. DH Rodrigo Orozco put the Aigles on top early with his two-run blast in the second inning. RF Steve Brown added on in the third with a sacrifice fly that made it 3-0. Ottawa got on the board with a sac-fly of their own in the top of the fourth, but the Aigles added three more in the bottom half to increase their lead to 6-1. CF Raphael Gladu posted his second RBI of the day in the sixth with an RBI double that made it 7-1. The Titans made things interesting with a three-run homer in the eighth to come within three, but Trois-Rivières was able to hand things over to RHP Kosei Naito in the ninth to close things out. Naito's save was his fourth of the season, cementing RHP Jessen Therrien's victory. RHP Scott Prins took the loss for Ottawa.

The Aigles will look to complete the series sweep on Sunday at Stade Quillorama. First pitch for the series finale is set for 1:05 PM EDT.

VALLEYCATS TAKE DOWN MINERS TO BREAK LOSING STREAK

TROY, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats halted their six-game skid with a 6-1 victory over the Sussex County Miners at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.

The ValleyCats (16-21) are now in a position to win their first series since the beginning of the month after taking the middle game against the Miners (14-22). Tri-City put itself in the lead early on a sacrifice fly in the third from RF Dylan Broderick. After the Miners tied the game in the fourth, the ValleyCats were able to put together two runs in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. In the sixth, C Chris Burgess pushed the game out of reach with a two-run homer that made it 5-1. 3B Ian Walters added another homer in the eighth to add insult to injury. RHP Easton Klein was solid in his seven-inning start, allowing only one run on four hits en route to his third win of the season. RHP Tyler Thornton walked away with the loss for Sussex County.

The Miners and ValleyCats will play their rubber game on Sunday at 5:00 PM EDT.
