20-PIECE: Y'ALLS DISMANTLE OTTERS IN HISTORIC VICTORY - FRONTIER DAILY ROUNDUP

FLORENCE Y'ALLS WIN BIG 

FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Y'alls blew out the Evansville Otters 20-2 at Thomas More Stadium on Saturday night.

It was a historic victory for the Y'alls (5-8), posting 20 runs on 25 hits to give the Otters (5-10) the loss. Florence came out firing, beginning the scoring with a six-run outburst in the third inning. Evansville would attempt to fight back, scoring two runs in the fifth to make it 6-2. The Y'alls would continue to play unfazed, scoring 14 unanswered runs across the last four innings. 1B Craig Massey and DH Zade Richardson both posted four RBIs; Massey was 4-for-4 at the dish with two walks while Richardson went 3-for-5 including a two-run bomb in the sixth. Florence's 25 hits and 20 runs are now the most given up in franchise history by the Otters, breaking the record originally made in 2002. LHP Johan Castillo took the loss for Evansville, as RHP Edgar Martinez walked away with the win. 

The Y'alls and Otters will play the rubber match of their series on Sunday. First pitch is at 1:07 PM EDT.

GATEWAY SHUTS OUT WASHINGTON

WASHINGTON, PA - The Gateway Grizzlies shut out the Washington Wild Things  2-0 on Saturday at Wild Things Park. 

The Grizzlies (8-6) halted the Wild Things' (9-4) winning streak at nine behind some excellent pitching. The Grizzlies would score their two runs in one inning, the third, highlighted by RF Andrew Mortiz's RBI triple. RHP Teague Conrad was excellent in his 5.1 inning start, only allowing two hits while striking out six in the shutout effort. The Gateway bullpen was even more impressive, with four relievers combining for 3.2 innings of no-hit baseball. Conrad picked up his first winning decision in his second professional appearance and has yet to allow a run so far in his 9.1 total innings pitched. Lukas Veinbergs picked up his fourth save for the Grizzlies. RHP Zach Kirby took the loss for the Wild Things.

Gateway and Washington will play for the series on Sunday, with the first pitching happening at 5:35 PM EDT.

JOLIET STORMS BACK LATE TO BEAT THUNDERBOLTS

CRESTWOOD, IL - The Joliet Slammers evened the series with the Windy City ThunderBolts on Saturday night, taking the second game 6-3.

The Slammers (6-8) scored five runs late to tie and then take the lead over the ThunderBolts (8-7) at Ozinga Field. Windy City began the scoring in the third inning with a triple to center field that brought in two runs. Joliet would take a run back in the fourth when 1B Mattew Warkentin doubled down the left field line and drove in a run, thanks to a ThunderBolts error. Windy City would reestablish a two-run lead but Joliet was able to score twice in the seventh to draw even at 3-3. The Slammers would take control in the eighth when 3B Antonio Valdez brought in two runs with a double down the right-field line. Valdez finished with a team-high two RBIs on two hits. RHP Brett Sanchez took the win out of the Joliet bullpen, only allowing two hits in four shutout innings. LHP Tyler Naumann took the loss for Windy City.

The Slammers and ThunderBolts will play a rubber game on Sunday in Crestwood, with first pitch coming at 2:05 PM EDT. 

VALLEYCATS STAVE OFF CAPITALES

QUEBEC, CAN. - The Tri-City ValleyCats were able to outlast the Québec Capitales in a 6-5 victory on Saturday at Stade Canac.

The ValleyCats (5-9) evened the series with the Capitales (7-7) after jumping out to a big lead. Tri-City opened the scoring with an RBI double from C Oscar Campos in the first inning and built a 3-0 lead by the fourth inning. The Capitales would cut the lead to 3-2 in the fifth, but the ValleyCats pushed the lead back to 6-2 after a three-run seventh. Québec would steal a run in the bottom half of the inning and made things interesting with a two-run homer in the eighth to cut their deficit to 6-5. RHP Nathan Medrano's perfect ninth inning would mark the end of the comeback effort, as he picked up his first save of the season. RHP Easton Klein got the win for the ValleyCats while LHP Ryo Kohigashi took the loss for the Capitales.

Tri-City and Québec will battle for the series on Sunday in Canada. First pitch for the rubber match is at 5:05 PM EDT.

CRUSHERS TAKE MIDDLE GAME IN SCHAUMBURG

SCHAUMBURG, IL - The Lake Erie Crushers came from behind the take the middle game against the Schaumburg Boomers, by a final of 7-4. 

The Crushers (9-5) regained ground in the Frontier League West division by evening their series with the Boomers (9-4), and now sit just a half-game behind the division leaders. Schaumburg was able to create a 2-0 behind a five-inning no-hit start before Lake Erie was finally able to break through in the sixth. The Crushers posted five runs in the sixth inning, capped by a two-run blast by LF Ron Washington Jr. that made it 5-2. Lake Erie would add two more in the following inning to put the game out of reach. RHP Anthony Escobar earned his first decision of the season, getting the win behind five innings only allowing two runs on four hits. RHP Cristian Lopez took the loss for Schaumburg.

The Crushers and Boomers will finish up their series on Sunday at Wintrust Field. First pitch is at 7:30 PM EDT.

BOULDERS OUTLAST COMEBACK FROM KNOCKOUTS

BROCKTON, MA - The New York Boulders held on to take down the New England Knockouts 11-10 at Campanelli Stadium on Saturday night.

The Boulders (10-3) established a huge lead against New England (4-9) but had to outlast a basketball-like 10-0 run from the Knockouts to take the win. New York quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and then added to it with 1B Peyton Isaacson's grand slam in the second. Isaacson would add three more RBIs in the fifth inning, making it 11-0 Boulders. The Knockouts refused to roll over and would post four runs in the fifth inning before adding another six in the seventh, cutting the score to 11-10. RHP Dylan Smith would snuff out the comeback in the ninth, as he picked up his third save of 2024. RHP Brandon Blackman picked up the winning decision for the Boulders, while RHP Matt Cronin took the loss for the Knockouts.

The Boulders will go for the sweep in New England on Sunday. First pitch is at 1:00 PM EDT.

MINERS BEAT JACKALS TO TAKE JERSEY SERIES

PATERSON, NJ - The Sussex County Miners scored twice in the ninth to beat the New Jersey Jackals 9-7 at Yogi Berra Stadium on Saturday.

The Miners (7-7) have won three of their last four games, and are on the brink of sweeping the Jackals (5-8). After being down 1-0 early, the Miners posted four runs in the third inning, including a two-run shot from DH Oraj Anu that made it 4-1. New Jersey would steal the lead back in the fifth, and the Miners answered with three runs in the eighth; INF Cory Action capped the inning with another two-run homer for Sussex County to give them a 7-5 lead. The Jackals would tie the game in the bottom of the inning and the game got pushed into extras. Anu came through again, scoring the go-ahead run in the 10th with an RBI double. RHP Robbie Hitt closed it out for the Miners, picking up his third save of the year. RHP Billy Parsons earned the win out of the Sussex County bullpen while RHP Jalon Tyson-Long took the loss for New Jersey. 

The Miners and the Jackals will finish up their cross-state series on Saturday, beginning at 4:35 PM EDT.

AIGLES SNATCH VICTORY FROM TITANS WITH A LATE COMEBACK

OTTAWA, CAN. - The Trois-Rivières Aigles beat the Ottawa Titans 11-10 in an offensive display at Titan Stadium on Saturday.

The Aigles (6-7) came back in the eighth inning to take the lead and defeat the Titans (6-7) on their home field. Trois-Rivières took the lead early, posting four runs in the first inning. CF Raphael Gladu would make it 5-0 in the second before Ottawa responded in the third to make it 5-3. The Aigles would add on in the fourth, thanks to a homer from 3B Luis Curbelo that made it 6-3. Ottawa then posted seven runs in the fifth to take a 10-7 lead. Trois-Rivières continued to battle offensively, scoring twice in the sixth to cut their deficit down to 10-8. 1B Dalton Combs played the role of hero in the eighth inning, blasting a go-ahead three-run dinger over the right field fence to put the Aigles back on top, 11-10. RHP Mitchell Milano closed it out in the ninth for the road team, picking up his first save in the process. RHP Shawn Atamanchuk took the victory out of the Aigle bullpen. RHP McLain Harris got the loss for Ottawa.

The Aigles and Titans will finish their series in Ottawa on Sunday. First pitch is at 1:00 PM EDT.
