ALFREDO GONZALEZ WINS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

JULY 1, 2024 - Lake Erie Crushers' slugger Alfredo Gonzalez has won the Frontier League Player of the Week award.

Alfredo Gonzalez has been big with the bat all season for the Lake Erie Crushers, coming through once again this past week. The veteran catcher and first baseman went 12-for-27 during the week, including a home run, leading the Crushers to a 4-2 record. Gonzalez registered multiple hits in five of his six games played that stretch, including a 3-for-5 line on Tuesday against the Windy City ThunderBolts where he drove in three runs and stole a base. The Venezuelan native came away with a split stat line of .444 AVG/.483 OBP/.593 SLG with three stolen bases and 9 RBI.

Gonzalez is in his first year with the Crushers and the Frontier League, previously playing in the Venezuelan Winter League and the Atlantic League. The 31-year-old has had previous experience in Major League Baseball, debuting with the Chicago White Sox in 2018 after spending time with the Houston Astros organization. He is the second Crusher (LHP Jack Eisenberger previously) to win a weekly award and the first position player this season. He is currently Lake Erie's leader in batting average (.293), home runs (9), and runs batted in (32).
