SAN DIEGO PADRES SIGN PITCHER OF THE YEAR MIGUEL CIENFUEGOS

The Québec Capitales are proud to announce that starting pitcher Miguel Cienfuegos had his contract acquired by the San Diego Padres.  Cienfuegos joins Nick Horvath as the second Capitales pitcher from their 2022 championship team to join a Major League Baseball organization.

Cienfuegos dominated the Frontier League in 2022, when his 1.79 ERA was nearly a full run ahead of the second place finisher.  In 21 starts, Ciefuengos recorded a 10-2 record with 106 strikeouts over 131 innings pitched.  As the Capitales were batting for the East Division title, Cienfuegos posted his best stretch of the season by surrendering only three runs over 27 innings for his last four outings.  He was the East Division starting pitcher in the 2022 All-Star Game and the winning pitcher in game 1 of the Frontier League Championship Series.

Capiltales' manager Patrick Scalabrini isn't surprised by this news: "Miguel wanted to be one of the best pitchers in the League, which he did, so he pretty much deserves this chance, and we'll be following him with a lot of interest!"

A native of Laval, Québec, Cienfuegos made his professional debut with Équipe Québec in 2021.  His 9-6 record and 3.78 ERA both were base marks on the team which spent the first half of the season on the road.
