NEW SERIES BEGIN AS EVANSVILLE WINS SEVENTH STRAIGHT

Lake Erie vs Evansville

The Evansville Otters (20-10) defeated the Lake Erie Crushers (13-18) with a final score of 12-10 on Friday afternoon. 

The Crushers scored first on a two RBI single by Bryant Flete to give them a 2-0 lead. 

The Otters found success in the bottom of the second inning to not only cut into the lead but take the lead. Their first run scored via a passed ball followed by a two-run homer by Dakota Phillips to make it 3-2. Evansville would score again in the bottom of the third on a solo shot to right field by Miles Gordon. 

The Crushers made it a one run game on a RBI single by Austin White to make it 4-3. The Otters expanded their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. The first run of the inning came on a walk with the bases loaded followed by a two RBI single by J.R. Davis, then a three run homer by Elijah MacNamee and finally a solo home run by Phillips. 

Lake Erie bats went to work again with an RBI groundout in the seventh by Kenen Irizarry and a two RBI double by White to cut the lead down to 11-6. 

Evansville tacked on one more run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a second homer by Gordon to double their lead 12-6. 

In the top of the ninth, the Crushers attempted a six-run come back starting with a three run home run by Connor Owings and a RBI double by Sean Cheely to make it 12-10. Unfortunately, the comeback would come just short. 

Lake Erie's starter, Julio Vivas, took the loss in his four and one-thirds innings of work. He allowed five hits, nine runs, eight earned, walked four batters and struck out five. Elliot Carney came in relief for the rest of the game. 

Evansville's starter, Austin Gossman, earned the win in his five innings of work. He allowed eight hits, three runs, two earned, walked one batter and struck out seven. Jacob Bowles, Tyler Spring, Samson Abernathy and Logan Sawyer came in relief. Sawyer earned the save for his inning of work in the ninth inning. He allowed only two hits. 

 

Washington vs Schaumburg

The Washington Wild Things (20-11) defeated the Schaumburg Boomers (14-15) with a final score of 5-3. 

The Wild Things scored first on a sac fly RBI by Wagner Lagrange to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. 

Schaumburg's Chase Dawson tied the game on an RBI triple down the right field line to tie the game in the bottom of the second. Clint Hardy would help the Boomers take a 2-1 lead on a sac fly RBI in the same inning.

Washington tied the game in the top of the third on a Jared Mang solo homer to left field. In the top of the fifth Hector Roa hit a two RBI double to right to take a 4-2 lead followed by an Ian Walters RBI single to expand the lead, 5-2. 

The Boomers attempted a late comeback in the bottom of the nine scoring on an RBI double by Cris Ruiz to make it 5-3. However, the comeback would not be successful. 

Schaumburg's starter, Erik Martinez, took the loss in his five and two thirds innings of work. He allowed 12 hits, five earned runs, walked one batter and struck out seven. Kristian Scott, Aaron Glickstein, Thomas Nicoll and Michael Slaten all came in relief.

Washington's starter, Rob Whalen, earned the win for his eight innings of work. He allowed nine hits, two earned runs, zero walks, and struck out five batters. Lukas Young came in the ninth inning to earn the save. He allowed two hits, one earned run, walked one batter and struck out one. 

 

Empire State vs Trois-Rivières

The Trois-Rivières Aigles (12-16) defeated the Empire State Greys (0-29) by a score of 16-12 Friday night.  

There were runs in almost every inning with the exception of the seventh and ninth inning. 

The Aigles scored first in the bottom of the first and never looked back from there.

The Aigles held the lead the entire game with the Greys attempting the comeback multiple times throughout the game.  

Allegret got the win for the Aigles while Tom Derer got charged with the loss for the Greys. 

 

 

Quebec vs Sussex County 

The Sussex County Miners (18-14) defeated the Quebec Capitales (22-8) by a score of 3-2 Friday night.

All the runs scored in the matchup were in the seventh inning.

The Capitales scored in the top of the seventh off a homerun from T.J White and then a home run off of Kevin Crowl to make the score 2-0.  

The Miners would then get ahead off a homerun from Martin Figueroa and then an RBI double from Cito Culver that would lead them to their 3-2 win. 

John Baker would get the win for the Miners while Paiva would get charged with the loss for Quebec. 

  

Ottawa vs New Jersey  

The Ottawa Titans (21-7) defeated the New Jersey Jackals (12-16) by a score 6-5 Friday night. 

It was bacon night at Yogi Berra Stadium during a beautiful Friday evening as the Jackals welcomed the second place team in the East Division, the 20-7 Ottawa Titans. Right-hander Jorge Tavarez made his 4th start of the season, entering the contest with a 3-2 record, and was phenomenal. The Dominican Republic native threw 5 innings, giving up 2 earned runs on 5 hits, walking 4 and tying a season high in strikeouts with 10.

The scoring started in the second inning as Titans second baseman Jackie Urbaez hit an RBI infield single that scored Tyrus Greene. Trailing Greene was centerfielder Will Zimmerman who crossed home plate via an E4 and it was quickly 2-0 Ottawa. New Jersey would answer right back with two runs of their own. 

Right Fielder Josh Rehwald tripped a single that scored catcher Jason Agresti. Zack Whalin smoked a double down the left field line to score Rehwaldt and knot the game at 2.

The Jackals would grab their only lead of the game in the third inning, courtesy of an Alfredo Marte sacrifice fly to left which drove in shortstop Santiago Chirino.

The back and forth matchup continued in the fourth as Titans' third baseman, and New Jersey native, A. J. Wright drew a bases loaded walk to once again tie the game at 3 a piece. 

Once Ottawa got to the New Jersey bullpen, the floodgates were opened. Wright tallied his second and third RBI of the ballgame after he tattooed a fastball off of New Jersey reliever Angelo Baez the opposite way to right field to put the Titans out in front 5-3. 

The Titans wouldn't stop there, as Jacob Sanford clobbered his 9th big fly of the campaign to give Ottawa a 6-3 lead after six innings of play. 

The Jackals had their rally caps ready as Dalton Combs came through in the 9th inning with a 2-run single to right field, scoring Joe Simone and Zack Whalin. The New Jersey first baseman was the top offensive performer tonight going 3-5 at the plate with 2 RBIs. The Jackals couldn't muster up any ninth inning heroics as left-hander Kevin Escorcia shut the door for the Titans to record his 9th save of the season.  

 

Tri-City vs New York 

The New York Boulders (16-15) defeated the Tri-City ValleyCats (15-15) by a score of 11-2 Friday night. 

Chris Kwitzer hit two home runs and drove in five runs to back seven strong innings on the mound from starter Dan Wirchansky as the host New York Boulders won for the third straight night, downing the Tri-City ValleyCats 11-2 on Friday at Clover Stadium in Pomona.

Kwitzer hit a two-run home run in the first inning to stake New York to a 2-0 lead; then blasted a two-run shot in the sixth to up the Boulders' advantage to 10-1. Kwitzer also singled in the third inning and added an RBI single in the fifth as he finished the evening with four hits.

The home runs gave Kwitzer seven for the year.

Meanwhile, Wirchansky, in seven innings of work, allowed only one run on five hits while striking out 10. He did not walk a batter as he improved to 3-1 on the year. 

The lone run surrendered by Wirchansky was a fourth inning solo home run by Juan Santana, his fifth of the year.

Leading 2-1 in the fifth, Max Smith led off the inning for New York with a solo home run, his third of the season. Later in the frame, Kwitzer's RBI single made it 4-1.

The Boulders then broke the game open with a six-run sixth inning that featured a two-run double by Gian Martellini, an RBI double from Jake MacKenzie and Kwitzer's second home run of the evening. The offensive explosion increased the New York advantage to 10-1.

Francisco Del Valle capped off New York's scoring with an RBI groundout in the eighth inning.

Olbis Parra started and took the loss for Tri-City. He allowed 10 runs on a dozen hits in six innings as he fell to 1-2 on the year.

The Valley Cats also received an RBI single from Juan Silverio in the ninth inning.

 

Florence vs Windy City 

The Florence Y'alls (12-18) defeated the Windy City Thunderbolts (14-16) 7-2. 

The Y'alls struck first in the top of the fifth inning on a solo home run to right field by Joe Lytle.
The Bolts scored in the bottom of the sixth inning on a RBI sac fly by Dan Robinson to tie up the game 1-1. 

Florence responded in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Andres Sthormes to take the lead. A suicide squeeze succesfully scored a run on a fielders choice and two errors on separate plays brough home two more runs to make it 5-1.

Windy City managed to get the bats swinging in the bottom of the seventh but were only able to bring across one run on a RBI single by Jace Mercer but left two runners on the basepaths.  

Florence would not hold back the runs as a RBI single by Lytle where he would later score on a wild pitch that widened the lead 7-2 in the top of the eighth inning.

Windy City's starter, Sebastian Selway, would receive a no-decision. He threw five and two thirds innings allowing five hits, one earned run, no walks and two strikeouts. Neil Abbatiello, Braydon Bonner and Daniel Kight came in relief. Abbatiello took the loss through his two-thirds innings of work. He allowed four runs, three earned no walks and no strikeouts. The ThunderBolts committed five errors in the game. 

Florence's starter, Jonaiker Villaobos, earned the win. He allowed one hit, one earned run, no walks and four strikeouts. Jonaiker Villalobos came in relief. 

 

Joliet vs Gateway

The Joliet Slammers (17-15) outscored the Gateway Grizzlies (14-17) with a final score of 15-1. 

Joliet scored in six of nine innings. Five players had multi-RBI games, two of the five had a multi home run game as well. Those individuals with two home runs each were Scott Holzwazzer and Luke Mangieri. In addition, Matt Burch, Tyler Depreta-Johnson and JP Fullerton had multi-RBI performances at the plate. Holzwazzer led with five RBI while going 3-5 at the plate. 

Zimmerman was the only positive at the plate for the Grizzlies hitting a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Gateway's starter, JP Williams, took the loss through his four and two-thirds innings or work. He allowed 11 hits and runs, eight were earned, one walk and struck out five batters. Lukas Veinbergs, Taylor Suggs and Carson Cupo all came in relief. 

Joliet's starter, Trevor Charpie, earned the win in his six and two-thirds innings of work. He allowed three hits, one earned run, two walks, and struck out six batters. Joseph Cumo came in relief for two and one-thirds innings.
