Y'ALLS PUSH WINNING STREAK TO FOUR!

Evansville vs Florence

The Florence Y'alls (15-18) defeated the Evansville Otters (21-13) by a score of 15-6 Wednesday night.

Yasel Santana pitched a seven-inning gem, and the Florence Y'alls bats came through with a trio of long rallies to beat the Evansville Otters, 15-6, at Thomas More Stadium on Wednesday night.

Florence scored four runs in the third, four in the fifth, six in the seventh, and one more in the eighth en route to the lopsided victory. They hit three home runs in the process: Brennan Price, Axel Johnson, and Andres Sthormes all went deep. Price knocked a grand slam for his team-leading ninth homer of the year.

Overall, eight Y'alls batters reached base in the contest. Six notched multi-hit games, including a sparkling 4-for-5 from shortstop Alberti Chavez.

Yasel Santana (2-2) kept up his end of the bargain against Evansville, the best power-hitting team in the Frontier League. Otters batters managed just two runs and two hits off the right-hander. Santana dealt seven innings and struck out seven in the win. Impressively, Yasel accomplished this while throwing only 79 pitches. Karl Craigie pitched the eighth, with position player Harrison DiNicola closing out the game in the ninth.

For the Otters, Justin Watland takes the loss. He allowed eight earned runs in ten innings. An Otters team that entered the series with the league's top ERA has surrendered 21 runs in two nights.

Florence has now won eight of its last nine games. The 15-18 Y'alls continue their climb out of the cellar, now a full two games ahead of last-place Lake Erie.

Trois-Rivières vs Tri-City

The Trois-Rivières Aigles (15-17) and Tri-City ValleyCats (16-18) split a doubleheader with the Aigles taking the first game 3-1 and the ValleyCats taking the second game 5-4.

Wednesday featured two games at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium, as the Tri-City ValleyCats took on the Troís-Rivieres Aigles in a double header after Tuesday night's game was postponed due to rain.

The ValleyCats sent out Leo Crawford to make the start for game one of the double header. The Aigles lead off man, Louis-Phillippe Pelletier would reach after Pavin Parks mishandled a grounder hit to him, allowing the first batter of the game to reach base. Canice Ejoh would follow that up with an RBI double, allowing Pelletier to score. Former ValleyCat Steve Brown would then rip a single down the left field line, allowing the speedy Ejoh to come around to score.

The Aigles would jump out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning, after Valibhav Desai would rip an RBI double in to the left center field gap, plating Joe Campagna who doubled himself just the at bat before.

Crawford would settle down after the second inning, pitching two quiet innings in the third and fourth, keeping the Aigles bats at bay from that point forward.

Troís-Rivieres starter Sam Belisle-Springer brought his fast paced game to the mound, working quickly and keeping the ValleyCats offense in check through the early stages of the game. Through the first four innings, the right hander would only surrender two hits, a double from Denis Phipps, and a single from Brad Zunica. It wasn't until the bottom fifth inning that the 'Cats would plate their first and only run of the contest when Denis Phipps would launch a solo shot into the 'Cats bullpen to bring the score to 3-1.

Tri-City would threaten in both the sixth and seventh innings, stranding five runners over the two inning span. Juan Santana would end the game on a fly out to Campagna in foul territory.

The Sussex County Miners (21-15) defeated the Ottawa Titans (23-9) by a score of 6-4 Wednesday night.

The Miners got to scoring first in the first inning with a double off of Martin Figueroa.

The Miners would score more runs in the inning to make it 3-0.

The Miners would add another run in the sixth.

The Titans would inch closer in the sixth by scoring three runs with the help from T.J. Wright, Jason Dicochea, and Fukuda to make it 5-4.

The Miners would add one more run in the ninth and would win the game 6-4.

Jimmy Boycs would get the win for the Miners while James Mulry would get the save. While Zac Westcott would get the loss for Ottawa.

Empire State vs New Jersey

The New Jersey Jackals (14-18) defeated the Empire State Greys (0-33) by a score of 7-1 in a game that got called in the fifth inning.

On a cold, gloomy, and rainy night at Yogi Berra Stadium the Jackals faced off against the Empire State Greys in the second game of this three game series. The first game of the series probably brought about the most unique circumstances that both teams have played in so far this season-- the game started at 9:05 PM because of two consecutive rain delays. This game was also delayed, but only for 20 minutes as the Jackals looked to take another game away from the Greys. An Empire State loss would push their record-setting losing streak to 33 consecutive games to start this season.

The Jackals continued to shine offensively, despite the rainy conditions, scoring in every single inning of this game, which hasn't happened all season. Todd Isaccs, who was back in the leadoff spot, went 2 for 3 in the game including a homerun that soared out of Yogi Berra Stadium. That was Isaacs' seventh home run on the year and was his second day in a row with a home run. He also extended his hitting streak to 13 games which is a Jackals season high.  Another player that continued to shine for the Jackals was Jorge Tavares. Tavares gave up only one run on four hits with 8 strikeouts in another great outing for the Jackals. He was a trooper today going through the entire game and also sitting out during the delay and continuing to dominate the Grey's lineup

The rain, mist, and fog quickly disoriented the players in the middle innings and at 8:30, the game was placed in a fog delay. The game did not resume until about 9:30. The rain however came back, and with greater intensity. The game was eventually called due to the rain after 4 ½ innings which just makes it an official game. The Jackals defeated the Greys 7-1.

New York vs Quebec

The Quebec Capitales (25-9) defeated The New York Boulders (18-17) by a score of 2-1 Wednesday night.

Quebec Capitales' starter Codie Paiva and three relievers teamed up to outduel New York's Dan Wirchansky and come away with a 2-1 win on Wednesday at Stade Canac in Quebec City after the Boulders had the tying run thrown out at the plate in the top of the ninth inning.

Neither team's offense could get untracked on this night – the Boulders finished with eight hits – but had only five through eight innings, while Wirchansky, in going eight innings, held the Capitales to just four hits. Wirchansky walked one, struck out eight and needed 96 pitches to go the distance.

Wirchansky was perfect through three innings for the Boulders before issuing a lead-off walk to David Glaude to open the fourth. Wirchansky would pick Glaude off of first base, then retire Garrett Takamatsu before surrendering his first hit of the night, a two-out double by T.J. White, who was stranded at second when Kyle Crowl bounced out to short.

The Capitales finally broke through against the lefthander in the sixth. Blake Berry led off with a single and was sacrificed to second before Glaude lined a triple to center that put Quebec up 1-0. Takamatsu followed with an RBI single to increase the Capitales' lead to 2-0.

Wirchansky retired White and Crowl to end the frame without any further damage.

Meanwhile, Quebec starter Codie Paiva matched Wirchansky zero for zero through the top of the sixth. Before giving way to Henry Omana to start the seventh, Paiva allowed just four hits, walked one and struck out five as he kept New York off the scoreboard.

Omana and Marshall Shill tossed a scoreless inning apiece before yielding to Samuel Adames in the ninth. Adames was touched up for a run and avoided blowing the save when the tying run was thrown out at the plate.

The Boulders' offense showed some life in the ninth inning. Giovanni Garbella led off with a single and scored when Francisco Del Valle followed with a long double to left-center. After Austin Dennis struck out, Gian Martellini singled to left, but Quebec outfielder Pedro Gonzalez made a perfect throw to catcher Reece Yeargain, who applied the tag on Del Valle.

Gabriel Garcia then bounced out to shortstop to end the game.

Paiva's win improved him to 3-2 on the year, while the loss left Wirchansky at 3-2 on the season. Despite the rough ninth inning, Adames was credited with his ninth save of the season.

Schaumburg vs Gateway

The Gateway Grizzlies (17-18) defeated the Schaumburg Boomers (15-18) by a score of 7-5 Wednesday night.

The Gateway Grizzlies trailed 4-2 against the Schaumburg Boomers going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but made a comeback to take the lead for good, scoring five runs with two outs on three critical hits back-to-back-to-back, and warding off a late charge to win 7-6 at GCS Credit Union Ballpark.

For the second straight night, Schaumburg got the scoring started when Sam Claycamp hit a two-run home run over the left field wall to take an early 2-0 lead. But Gateway answered in the bottom of the frame when Jay Prather mashed a solo home run to make it 2-1. In the bottom of the third, the Grizzlies added another run when Peter Zimmermann grounded into a double play with the bases loaded to tie the game at 2-2.

But the Boomers got the lead back in the top of the fourth inning, as Clint Hardy hit a two-run home run to make it 4-2. Boomers starter Erik Martinez (2-3) then retired 12 Grizzlies batters in a row, holding the lead intact.

But in the bottom of the seventh inning, Jose Rosario singled with one out to break up the streak, and Abdiel Diaz singled with two outs. Andrew Penner then drove in Rosario on an RBI single to make it 4-3, and Isaac Benard followed by ripping a go-ahead, two-run double to put Gateway in front 5-4. Trevor Achenbach followed Benard after a pitching change with a two-run home run, his team-best tenth of the season, to expand the Grizzlies' lead to 7-4.

Schaumburg again threatened in the top of the eighth, as William Salas led off with a solo home run to make it 7-5. The Boomers then loaded the bases with no outs, but Nick Kennedy allowed only one inherited run to score on an RBI fielder's choice by Claycamp to make the score 7-6, getting out of further trouble with the lead intact. Reed Hayes then retired the Boomers in order with two strikeouts to earn his fourth save closing out the series-clinching victory.

Windy City vs Joliet

The Windy City ThunderBolts (16-17) defeated the Joliet Slammers (18-18) by a score of 4-3 Wednesday night.

The Windy City ThunderBolts won their second straight game, holding on to beat the Joliet Slammers, 4-3, on Wednesday afternoon at Duly Health and Care Field. Dan Robinson had two doubles, drove in two runs and reached base four times, while six Bolts pitchers combined to seal the win.

For the second straight day, the Slammers (18-18) took the first lead, only for the Bolts (16-17) to respond right away.

Brylie Ware collected an RBI double in the bottom of the first to make it 1-0 Joliet. In the top of the second, Pierce Jones' sacrifice fly and Dan Robinson's RBI double gave the Bolts the lead.

After the Robinson double, the Bolts never trailed. They got insurance runs in the fourth and fifth on an RBI single by Brian Fuentes and a sacrifice fly by Robinson.

Joliet cut the lead to one run on Tyler Depreta-Johnson's two-run single in the sixth.

Kenny Mathews, Ryan Miller, Justin Miller, Cal Djuraskovic, Daniel Kight and Layne Schnitz-Paxton all pitched for the Bolts, holding Joliet to three runs. Ryan Miller (1-0) earned the win, pitching a 1-2-3 fourth inning. Schnitz-Paxton (5) earned the save, stranding the tying run at third with a strikeout to end the game.

Cam Zunkel  took the loss, with the Bolts scoring three runs in 3.2 innings off the righty.

Lake Erie vs Washington

The Washington Wild Things (23-12) defeated the Lake Erie Crushers (14-21) by a score of 7-0 on Wednesday.

The Washington Wild Things took on the Lake Erie Crushers in game two of a three-game set and crushed the Crushers 7-0, securing their 10th-straight series win.

Newly acquired Wild Things lefty Kobe Foster started on the bump for Washington, dealing six shutout innings in the win. Foster struck out three and allowed just three hits in his pro debut out of Tennessee Wesleyan University.

Nick Ward disrupted the scoreless ballgame in the bottom of the third with an opposite-field blast that put the Wild Things up. Scotty Dubrule drove in Jared Mang with a single, who tripled earlier in the inning, and Andrew Czech brought in Dubrule with a sac-fly which brought the inning tally to three runs.

Dubrule kept his on-fire series alive with another RBI in the fifth bringing in Ward. Czech followed suit, driving in his second run to make it 5-0 for Washington.

In the seventh, Hector Roa padded the lead to six runs with a gap shot that brought in big man Czech from first. Cole Brannen brought Roa in with a single up the middle to make it 7-0 Washington.

Washington rode that lead to the end of the contest.
