NEW JERSEY’S JOSH REHWALDT AND EMPIRE STATE’S JOHSSON ARIAS TAKE WEEKLY AWARDS
June 27, 2022 – After the New Jersey Jackals went 4-2 this week, their outfielder didn't disappoint. While the Empire State Greys got their first win of the season, their pitcher shined in his appearances. The Jackal' s Josh Rehwaldt is this week's Player of the Week while the Grey's Johsson Arias is Pitcher of the Week.
Josh Rehwaldt had himself this week after having 11 hits, eight runs scored, and 12 RBIs with four homeruns. He had at least one hit or more in five out of the six games this week with his best game being against the Empire State Greys on Tuesday where he went 3-5 at the plate with three runs scored and 5 RBIs and one homerun. He then outdid himself on Friday against the Quebec Capitales where he went 3-4 at the plate, had three hits, two runs scored, three RBIs, and two homeruns. Overall, his performance this week led to a .500 on-base percentage and 1.043 slugging percentage.
Before coming to New Jersey in 2021, Rehwaldt played for the Washington Wild Things in 2020. Where in that season he had 17 hits, four homeruns, had eight RBIs and one stolen base in 17 games. Rehwaldt went to Sioux Falls where he played for four years. His best season came in his senior year where he had 58 hits, 10 homeruns, 35 RBIs and 20 stolen bases.
Arias excelled in his appearances this week. In his appearance against the New Jersey Jackals on Tuesday, he had two strikeouts, allowed five hits, one walk and only allowed two earned runs and then did outdid himself in his start on Saturday against the Tri-City ValleyCats where he only allowed one hit, four walks, had two strikeouts and. no runs.
Arias started playing with the Greys in 2022. Before Empire State,, he played in the minors with the Houston Astros and Baltimore Orioles organizations for three seasons as part of the Domincan Summer league, and Gulf Coast League. His best season was in 2018 where he had a 4-3 record with 52 strikeouts, 2.81 ERA, and only 20 walks.
