BOULDERS WIN STREAK GOES TO 4 AND JOLIET CONTINUES TO RACK UP RUNS!

Tri-City vs New York 

The New York Boulders (17-15) defeated the Tri-City ValleyCats (15-16) by a score of 8-7 on Saturday night. 

Austin Dennis' single in the bottom of the ninth scored Giovanni Garbella with the winning run and completed a comeback from a six-run deficit as the host New York Boulders downed the Tri-City ValleyCats, 8-7, on Saturday at Clover Stadium in Pomona.

Garbella had reached with one out in the bottom of the ninth when his grounder to third base was errantly thrown to first by Juan Silverio.

Francisco Del Valle followed with a single to left that moved Garbella to second.

Dennis then lined a single to left that was bobbled by ValleyCats' outfielder Carson McCusker, the misplay allowing Garbella to score the winning run.

The victory was the fourth in a row for New York,

Dan Goggin pitched a perfect ninth to pick up the win for New York. He is 1-0 on the year.

Adam Hofacket was tagged with the loss for Tri-City, He fell to 6-3 on the season.

The Boulders trailed 7-1 after 3 1/2 innings, then chipped away with two runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh frames to eventually knot the game at 7-7.

In the fourth, bases loaded walks to  Dennis and Steven Figueroa off Tri-City starter Joey Gonzalez cut the Boulders' deficit to 7-3. Two innings later, a Chris Kwitzer double against ValleyCats' reliever Jake Dexter and an RBI single by Del Valle off of Oddy Nunez, the third Tri-City pitcher on the night, left the home team down 7-5.

The Boulders completed their comeback in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Dennis and a single by Del Valle against Trey Cochran-Gill, the fifth ValleyCats' pitcher, with both runs charged to Jose Cruz.

New York had opened the scoring on a first inning sacrifice fly by Garbella.

However, Tri-City answered with four runs in the top of the second - the big blow being a bases loaded, three-run double by Brantley Bell. That was followed by an RBI triple by Jesus Lujano that gave the 'Cats a 4-1 lead.

Tri-City increased their advantage to 7-1 in the fourth on a three-run home run by McCusker, his second of the season.

 

Ottawa vs New Jersey 

The Ottawa Titans (22-7) defeated the New Jersey Jackals (12-17) by a score of 5-3 on Saturday night. 

The New Jersey Jackals and Ottawa Titans met once again today for the second game of their three game series. After a close game on Friday night, the two teams engaged in another nail biter on Star Wars night. The Titans would remain on the high ground, winning this one 5-3.

The Jackals got a solid pitching effort from starter Nick DeSalvo through the first four innings, only allowing one hit which was a homer to AJ Wright. DeSalvo would encounter some trouble in the fifth, where he was eventually pulled with one out for Gage Smart. Smart would give up two more runs in the inning before inducing a ground ball to Santiago Chirino for the third out of the inning. Austin Smith struggled with his command today and had three walks, but made it through two scoreless innings. Juan Perez came in and pitched two perfect innings.

Titans starter Jose Tavares had a phenomenal start pitching seven innings with five strikeouts and getting the win.  He had some issues in the fourth inning allowing three runs but outside of that falter, he only allowed three Jackals baserunners. Nelson Gonzalez picked up the save for the Titans pitching the last two innings and only allowing one hit to the Jackals.

The Jackals offense started slowly with one baserunner through the first three innings. The bats got going in the bottom of the fourth scoring three runs on four hits before recording the first out. That would be the only inning with multiple hits for the Jackals. They did have one last hope however in the ninth inning with a one out double by Justin Wylie, but the next two batters flew out to end the game.

The Titans offense got going early with AJ Wrights first inning solo homer.  Then after the Jackals three run fourth the Titans got three runs of their own in the fifth. The go-ahead run was scored on an AJ Wright RBI single, scoring Will Zimmerman. They would later add an insurance run in the sixth inning on a bases loaded walk.

 

Quebec vs Sussex County

The Quebec Capitales (23-8) defeated the Sussex County Miners (18-15) by a score of 3-2 on Saturday night. 

The Capitales got to scoring first in the top of the 2nd with an RBI single off of Pedro Gonzalez to score two runs. 

The Miners would score a run in the sixth and the seventh inning to come back and tie the game. 

The Capitales would get their leading and winning run in the top of the ninth off Kevin Crowl. 

James Mulry gets charged with the loss for the Miners while Moscatiel gets the win and Samuel Adames gets the save for Quebec. 

 

Lake Erie vs Evansville

The Lake Erie Crushers (14-18) defeated the Evansville Otters (20-11) by a score of 8-5 on Saturday night.

The Crushers scored first in the top of the first inning on a Kenen Irizarry solo homer to right field. In the top of the fourth they would score again on another solo homer off the bat of Jake Gitter. In the top of the following inning Connor Owings would hit a two RBI single to left to give Lake Erie an 4-0 lead.

Elijah MacNamee would start the comeback for the Otters in the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo homer to left. In the bottom of the sixth inning MacNamee would hit an RBI single to left to cut the lead in half, 4-2. 

The Otter's comeback would continue in the bottom of the eighth inning on a Steven Sensley home run to right to put the Otters down by one run. Evansville would get that run in the bottom of the ninth courtesy of Miles Gordon's home run to right field to tie the game at four runs a side and send the game into extra innings. 

Despite the Crusher's not being able to score since the top of the fifth, the Crushers managed to score four runs in the top of the tenth. Two runs came from back-to-back RBI walks. The last two would come on a two RBI single by Sean Cheely to give them the 8-4 win.

Evansville's starter, Brett Adcock, received a no-decision for his three innings of work. He allowed six hits, one earned run, walked two batters and struck out zero. Brice Stuteville, Jake Polancici and Samson Abernathy came in relief. Polancic took the loss for his one and one thirds innings of work. He allowed no hits, four runs, three earned, walked three and struck out zero batters.

Lake Erie's starter, Gunner Kines, received a no-decision as well for his six innings of work. He allowed four hits, two earned runs, one walk and struck out 10 batters. Gleyvin Pineda, Sam Curtis and Alexis Rivero came in relief. Rivero earned the win for his two innings of work. He allowed one hit, two runs, one earned, walked three and struck out two batters. 

 

Washington vs Schaumburg

The Washington Wild Things (21-11) defeated the Schaumburg Boomers (14-16) by a final score of 5-4. 

Washington started the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI double by Scotty Dubrule and an RBI single by Ramon Osuna. 

Schaumburg cut the lead in half with a homer to left field by Cris Ruiz to make it 2-1. The Boomers managed to tie the game at two in the bottom of the sixth on a sac fly RBI by William Salas. 

Washington, in the top of the ninth, took a 3-2 lead on a solo home run by Jared Mang pushing the Boomers into a corner late in the game. 

Schaumburg would manage to tie the game on a sacrifice bunt RBI by Blake Grant-Parks and tie the game at three runs a side. 

The game would go into extra innings but both teams managed to score one run with Andew Czech hitting an RBI single for Washington and Ruiz hitting an RBI double to send it to sudden death baseball. 

Shcaumburg elected to defend as the home team which would leave Washington with a runner on first and three outs to walk it off. Jared Mang managed to hit an RBI double that would get past the center fielder which would score the runner from first for a road walk off win. 

Schaumberg's starter, Blake Stelzer, received a no-decision for his five innings of work. He allowed eight hits, two earned runs, walked one batter and struck out two. Juan Pichardo, Jake Joyce, Darrell Thompson and Aaron Glickstein came in relief. Glickstein took the loss for his two thirds inning of work. He allowed one hit, one unearned run and struck out two batters. 

Washington's starter, Daren Osby, also received a no-decision for his five innings of work. He allowed two hits, one earned run, walked three batters and struck out seven. Kenny Pierson, Dan Kubiuk, Christian James and Lukas Young came in relief. Young earned the win allowing two hits, two runs, one earned, two walks and struck out one batter through two innings of work.

 

Florence vs Windy City

The Florence Y'alls (13-18) defeated the Windy City ThunderBolts (14-17) by a final score of 5-3. 

The ThunderBolts took an early lead in the bottom of the third on a RBI single by Dan Robinson and a two RBI single by Brian Fuentes to lead 3-0. 

The Y'alls tied it up 3-3 late in the seventh inning on an RBI fielder's choice and a two RBI double by Ray Zuberer to complete the comeback. The Y'alls then extended their lead in the top of the eighth inning on a two RBI triple by Joe Lytle to lead the game 5-3. 

Windy City's starter, Garrett Christman, received a no-decision for his six and one thirds innings of work. He allowed five hits, three earned runs, one walk and struck out seven batters. Justin Miller and Layne Schnitz-Paxton came in relief. Miller took the loss after allowing two hits, two earned runs while walking two batters and striking out two. 

 

Joliet vs Gateway

The Joliet Slammers (18-15) defeated the Gateway Grizzlies (13-18) by a final score of 12-3. 

Following a large scoring game in last night's ball game for Joliet a trio of players hit for multiple RBI's. Scott Holzwasser, Phillip Steering and Dave Matthews combined for 10 of the 12 RBI in the game. Holzwasser, Steering and Matthews also managed to hit homers in the game as well. 

Despite Gateway scoring first and taking a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch, they would only manage to score once more in the bottom of the ninth inning on a Trevor Achenbach two run homer. 

Gateway's starter, Brendan Feldmann, took the loss in his six innings of work. He allowed three hits, earned runs and walks while striking out six batters. John Murphy, Andrew Cartier, Logan Bender and Reed Hayes all came in relief. 

Joliet's starter, Cameron Aufderheide, earned the win. He lasted eight and one-thirds innings. He allowed seven hits, two earned runs, struck out seven batters while managing to not walk a single Grizzlie. Chris Roycroft came in to pitch the last two innings. 

 

Empire State vs Trois-Rivières 

The Empire State Greys (0-29) vs Trois-Rivières Aigles (12-16) game was postponed due to rain and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on June 19th.
