HIGH SCORING GAMES AS NEW SERIES START

Quebec vs New York

The New York Boulders (15-15) defeated the Quebec Capitales (22-7) by a score of 17-6 on Thursday night. 

Gian Martellini and Giovanni Garbella each knocked in five runs and the host New York Boulders pounded out 20 hits in a 17-6 rout of the Quebec Capitales on Thursday at Clover Stadium in Pomona.

The win gave New York the series win over Quebec after the teams had split the first two games in Pomona.

Martellini had three hits, including two home runs, while Garbella did his damage on four hits, including his second home run of the season.

Martellini connected on a two-run shot in the second inning; then followed with a three-run blast in the fourth. The two long balls gave Martellini four home runs on the year.

Garbella hit his home run, a two-run shot, in the fifth inning.

New York scored four times in the second, once in the third and then exploded for seven in the fourth to grab a 12-3 lead.  The Boulders added two in the fifth and three in the sixth.

David Vinsky and Jake MacKenzie each had three hits for the Boulders in the win, Vinsky had one RBI and MacKenzie knocked in two runs. Vinsky extended his hitting streak to 11 games,

Meanwhile, Austin Dennis, Francisco Del Valle and Max Smith had two hits apiece for New York, with Dennis having two RBI and Smith knocking in one run.

Quebec scored three times in the fourth inning with Kyle Crowl and Reece Yeargain notching an RBI apiece. David Glaude added a three-run home run, his sixth of the year, in the ninth inning for the Capitales.

Ryder Yakel, the third of four pitchers used by New York, was credited with the win. He pitched hitless sixth and seventh innings to improve to 2-0 on the year.

Michael Austin took the loss for Quebec after surrendering seven runs in three innings of work on nine hits. It was his first defeat of the season against three wins.

 

New Jersey vs Tri-City

The Tri-City ValleyCats (14-14) defeated the New Jersey Jackals (12-14) by a score of  14-6 on Thursday night. 

A day that called for rain turned out to be a beautiful night for baseball as Kumar Rocker took the mound for his third start as a member of the Tri-City ValleyCats. The former Vanderbilt star dazzled as he prepared for the MLB Draft. Rocker allowed 2 hits, 1 run, and  struck 7 out in 4 innings of work, including 4 strikeouts in the second inning (Jason Agresti would reach on what was ruled a strike 3 wild pitch. His only mistake would come in the form of a Trevor Abrams solo home run in the third.

The 'Cats offense would bounce back from a stagnant second half of last night's game with a 14-run offensive outburst, including a 4-for-4 night for Willy Garcia. 8 out of the 9 Tri-City batters would register a hit, with 3 'Cats registering multi-hit games. The 'Cats would be just as strong defensively, with highlight-reel plays from Jesus Lujano, Willy Garcia, and Pavin Parks.

 

Empire State vs Sussex County

The Sussex County Miners (17-14) defeated the Empire State Greys (0-28) by a score 5-1 on Thursday night.  

The Miners got on the board first in the first inning with a single off of Jawaun Harris. 

The Greys only run would come in the top of the second with a single off of Liam McArthur

The Miners would continue to score in the fourth and seventh inning with the help from Carson McCurdy, Martin Figueroa, and David Mabery to lead them to their 5-1 win. 

Conner Dand got the win for the Miners while James Boyce got the save. Luis Pacheco got charged with the loss for the Greys. 

 

Trois-Rivières vs Ottawa

The Ottawa Titans (20-7) defeated the Trois-Rivières Aigles (11-16) by a score of 12-7 on Thursday night. 

The Titans scored first in the bottom of the first with a homerun from Brendon Dadson. 

The Aigles would tie it up in the second with a groundout from Raphael Gladu to allow the tying run to score. 

The Titans would get ahead in the bottom of the second and never look back. 

The Titans would score nine runs between the fifth and sixth inning. 

The Aigles would attempt for the comeback by putting up three runs in the eighth inning but ultimately would not be enough and would lead them to their 12-7 loss. 

Zac Westcott would get the win for Ottawa while Osman Gutierrez would get the loss for the Aigles. 

 

Washington vs Joliet

The Washington Wild Things (19-11) defeated the Joliet Slammers (16-15) with a final score of 13-6 on Thursday afternoon.

The Slammers started the scoring in the bottom of the first on a hit by pitch that scored a run, in the bottom of the second they scored again on a two RBI single by Brylie Ware to give the Slammers an early 3-0 lead. They would score again in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run home run by Ware which gave him a total of four RBIs in today's game and gave the Slammers a 5-0 lead. 

A big seventh inning for Washington helped them come back and take the lead starting with a RBI double by Wagner Lagrange, a three-run home run by Ian Walters that cut the lead down to 5-4. The Wild Things would take the lead on two wild pitches that scored runs to take a 6-5 lead at the end of the top of the seventh. Washington would score again in the top of the eighth on an RBI walk and a Nick Ward grand slam to widen the lead to 11-5.

Joliet pushed back in the eighth inning scoring another run on a RBI single by Justin Gomez who was thrown out trying to extend his single to a double. 

Washington managed to score twice more in the top of the ninth on a RBI single by Andew Czech and a sac fly RBI by Walters. 

Joliet's starter, Turner Larkins, received a no-decision for his six innings of work. He allowed five runs, three earned runs, two walks and struck out three batters. Chandler Brierley, Cole Stanton and Justin Gomez came in relief. Brierley would take the loss for his one and one thirds innings of work where he allowed two hits, six earned runs, three walks and was unable to record a strikeout. 

Washington's starter, Marrick Crouse, also received a no-decision for his four innings of work. He allowed five hits, five earned runs, four walks and struck out five batters. Dan Kubiuk, Christian James, Jake Pilarski and Kenny Pierson all came in relief. Kubiuk earned the win in his two innings of work where he allowed no hits, runs, walks and recorded two strikeouts. 

 

Florence vs Gateway

The Gateway Grizzlies (14-16) defeated the Florence Y'alls (11-18) with a final score of 9-2 on Thursday night.

The Grizzlies struck first in the bottom of the third on a sac fly RBI to take a 1-0 lead. They would score again in the bottom of the fifth on a Jose Rosario three-run homer to extend their lead to 4-0. 

Florence scored in the top of the seventh inning on two solo home runs by Brennan Price and Ethan Stern to cut the lead in half 4-2. 

A huge seventh inning for the Grizzlies expanded their lead starting with a solo home run by Benard, a runner scoring on a wild pitch, then a walk, and finally a hit by pitch to extend the lead 9-2. 

Florence's starter, Yasel Santana, took the loss in his four and two-thirds innings of work. He allowed five hits, four earned runs, walked five batters and struck out three. Karl Craigie, Cameron Pferrer and Evan Brabrand came in relief.

Gateway's starter, Carson LaRue, earned the win in his six innings of work. He allowed four hits, two earned runs, allowed one walk and struck out five batters. John Murphy, Justin Farrell and Andrew Cartier came in relief. 

 

Lake Erie vs Windy City

The Lake Erie Crushers (13-17) defeated the Windy City ThunderBolts (14-15) in a final score of 7-6 on Thursday night. 

The Crushers scored first in the top of the first on a field error and then scored again in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Kokko Figueiredo, an RBI double by Conner Owings, another fielding error, and a two-RBI triple by Devon Fisher to take a 7-0 lead. 

The ThunderBolts would rally to attempt a comeback with an two-run by Peyton Isaacson in the bottom of the fourth, a walk that scored a run, a two RBI single by Dayrl Myers in the bottom of the fifth and a RBI single by Jairus Richards in the bottom of the sixth to make it 7-6. Unfortunately, that is all the Bolts could bring around the diamond and fell short of a comeback.

Windy City's starter, Miguel Ausua, took the loss in his three and one thirds innings of work. He allowed seven hits, four runs, two earned, five walks and struck out four batters. Tyler Thornton and Daniel Kight came in relief. 

Lake Erie's starter, Joseph Sgambelluri, earned the victory in his five and one-thirds innings of work. He allowed six hits, six earned runs, three walks and struck out eight batters. Ean Walda, Sam Curtis and Alexis Rivero came in relief. Rivero earned the save for his one inning of work where he struck out two batters.
