AGRESTI HITS WALK-OFF FOR JACKALS TO TAKE SERIES FROM QUEBEC

AGRESTI HITS WALK-OFF FOR JACKALS TO TAKE SERIES FROM QUEBEC

Quebec vs New Jersey

It was another hot and sunny Waggy Wednesday at Yogi Berra Stadium, where the New Jersey Jackals gained another walkoff victory, 5-2 against the Quebec Capitales in the second game of the three game series after a 11-5 win last night.

The Jackals got off to a rather slow start, with the Capitales scoring 2 runs in the top of the first inning: the first scored on an passed ball and the second on a solo home run by Quebec catcher Jeffry Parra.

The Jackals were held scoreless for the first three innings but managed to pick up the pace in the bottom of the fourth when Trevor Abrams doubled and scored on a fielders choice by Dalton Combs. The bottom of the fifth started promisingly as well, as the Jackals were able to get Alfredo Marte and Jason Agresti on base and then loaded the bags when Joe Simone was hit by a pitch with no one out. Marte scored on George Bell Jr.'s RBI sacrifice fly, but the Jackals would run themselves out of the inning. A wild fielders choice by Abrams led to Agresti being thrown out at the plate and Simone being tagged out on the third base line.

Tied 2-2 at the bottom of the ninth , the Jackals immediately put Quebec in hot water with Combs placing a beautiful double into the right centerfield gap. After two strikeouts by Wylie and Josh Rehwaldt, Franklin Parra fell behind Alfredo Marte in a 2-1 count. Quebec opted to intentionally walk Marte to face Agresti, the second time in two games they've made such a call. Agresti worked the count to 2-2 before lofting a fly ball to right field that kept carrying over the wall for his fifth round-tripper of the season and first walk off hit, giving New Jersey a 5-2 win.

Gateway vs Washington

The Washington Wild Things bounced back against the Gateway Grizzlies 9-2 on Senior Slugger night. The game featured nine unanswered runs by Washington on offense and four double plays on defense. This win is number 100 for Tom Vaeth as manager of the Wild Things.

Washington was in the hole when Sandro Cabrera gave up a two-run home run in the fourth as the first runs of the game. The defense held after this, giving the offense time to come back strong. Jared Mang hit a two-run RBI single in the fifth to tie the game, and Wagner Lagrange hit an RBI single after to take the lead 3-2 at the end of four.

The scoring continued in the seventh, as Lagrange hit a groundout for an out to extend the lead and Andrew Czech lifted a sac fly to push it up one more. A few plays later, Ian Walters hit a two-run homer to make it four runs that inning and a 7-2 lead for Washington. Nick Ward followed this with an RBI triple in the eighth, making it home as the final run a play later with a sacrifice fly by Mang, making the score 9-2.

Landen Smith, making his Wild Things' and pro debut, came in to close the game. It was three up, three down, as Smith struck out the first, Tristan Peterson caught a pop fly by the second batter and Scotty Dubrule threw out the third batter at first to end the game.

Cabrera pitched seven innings in his start. He allowed two runs, eight hits and struck out seven for his seventh win this season. Christian James relieved Cabrera to start the eighth, allowed one hit and struck out one.

As for Vaeth's 100th win, he's the third fastest to 100 as the Wild Things' skipper, behind wins leader John Massarelli and Jeff Isom, whom Vaeth has tied for third all-time in wins. Tom is 100-64 as skipper of Washington now.

Trois-Rivières vs New York

David Vinsky had three hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs as the New York Boulders posted a 16-10 victory over the visiting Trois-Rivieres Aigles on Wednesday at Clover Stadium in Pomona.

The Boulders jumped in front with four runs in the second inning against Aigles' reliever Jose Vasquez, who was pressed into action after starter Kyle Thomas left after one frame with an injury. Tucker Nathans knocked in the first run with a double, while Max Smith made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly.

Vinsky then capped off the second inning explosion with a two-run home run, his 13th of the season.

Trois-Rivieres was kept off the scoreboard over the first four innings by New York starter Andy Hammond before touching up the righthander for three runs in the fifth - two coming on Juan Kelly's 10th homer of the year, which was followed by a solo blast by Carlos Martinez, his 16th of the season and second in as many days.

New York, though, responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and regained their four-run lead at 7-3. Chris Kwitzer drove in one run with a single and Ray Hernandez knocked in two with a double.

The Boulders then seized control with a four-run sixth inning - on just one hit, a bloop double by Kwitzer with the bases loaded. Two runs scored on the hit and two more crossed when Martinez, the Aigles' catcher, threw wildly to third base. The four runs gave New York an 11-3 advantage.

However, Trois-Rivieres made things interesting with a four-run seventh inning that included an RBI double by L.P. Pelletier, a run-scoring groundout from Kelly and a two-run double by Connor Panas that cut the Aigles' deficit to 11-7.

New York, though, answered with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to increase their lead to 14-7 - two runs coming on a Vinsky double and one when Giovanni Garbella was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The Aigles scored twice in the eighth, getting an RBI single from Martinez, while the second run scored when Steve Brown was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Nathans and Smith added  solo home runs in the eighth - for Nathans, it was his ninth of the year, while it was Smith's 10 of the season.

Hammond got the win for New York, his fifth of the year against a pair of losses, while Vasquez took the loss, falling to 1-2 on the season.

Schaumburg vs Florence

The Schaumburg Boomers scored in six consecutive innings, slugging to an 11-6 win over the Florence Y'Alls in the middle game of the series on Wednesday night in Kentucky.

Blake Stelzer retired the first 12 batters of the game and the Boomers built a 6-0 lead. Mike Hart opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the top of the third and Alec Craig added an RBI single in the inning. Hart and Chase Dawson drove home runs in the fourth and Alex Steinbach lifted a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

The run support was more than enough for Stelzer, who grabbed his sixth win of the season by working seven innings. Florence tried to make it a game on a couple occasions but the Boomers had an answer every time. Blake Berry and William Salas also homered in the win. Every member of the lineup posted a hit in the victory. Berry finished with four hits, three for extra bases, and scored four times. Dawson also racked up four hits, doubling twice.

Evansville vs Lake Erie

The Lake Erie Crushers received great pitching performances from Gunnar Kines and Alexis Rivero at Mercy Health Stadium on Wednesday night, as they came away with a 3-2 win over the Evansville Otters.

Lake Erie (33-35) has now won six out of their last eight at home, while the loss for Evansville (38-29) was their fourth in five games in Avon this season.

An Evansville throwing error allowed Lake Erie to take an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Connor Owings started the frame with a single to right field. A wild pitch put Owings on second base before Kemuel Thomas-Rivera walked. The Crushers called for a double steal, and Evansville catcher Justin Felix's throw down to third base ended up in left field, allowing Owings to score.

Lake Erie added two more in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kokko Figueiredo started the inning with a six pitch walk, and made his way to third on Kenen Irizarry's double. Austin White was then hit by a pitch to load the bases for Sean Cheely who drove Figueiredo in with a sacrifice fly to right. Bryan DeLaRosa followed with a walk to load the bases again for Jake   Gitter, who brought in the next run with a sacrifice fly to plate Irizarry.

Gunnar Kines (3-3) kept the Otters off the board for the first five innings, until Zach Biermann belted a solo homer in left in the top of the sixth inning to plate Evansville's first run.

In the eighth, Biermann began the inning with a double to left and came around to score on J.R. Davis's single to left. Walks were issued to Steven Sensley and Miles Gordon to load the bases and Alexis Rivero (10) was summoned out of the bullpen. He recorded two outs on two pitches to end the inning.

The Otters threatened again in the ninth. Elijah MacNamee reached on a one out single and made his way to third on Biermann's single. Rivero retired Jeffrey Baez on a fly out, before Davis hit a sharp ground ball to Owings at third. Owings made a terrific diving stop and threw Davis out at first base to end the game.

Kines picked up the win after allowing just a run on six hits while striking out eight batters over seven strong innings. Rivero scored the save after tossing an inning and two-thirds of scoreless relief. Evansville's Brett Adcock (4-4) took the loss after allowing three runs on three hits through six and two-thirds.

On a night where hits were tough to come by, Owings led the way going 2-for-5 and has now reached in seven straight games. Irizarry went 1-for-3 and reached two times to extend his on base streak to eight games.

Empire State vs Sussex County

The Sussex County Miners defeated the Empire State Greys by a score of 6-2 Wednesday night.

The Greys got on the scoreboard first with a single from Magglio Ordonez Jr. to score the first run in the bottom of the second.

The Miners would quickly get tie and get ahead when they scored in the bottom of the seconds and scored three runs in the third.

Sussex County would get two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 1-6.

The Greys would attempt to try and come back in hte top of the seventh by scoring one run but was not enough and would lead to their 2-6 loss.

Vin Mazzaro would get the win for the Miners while Jay Palais would get charged with the loss for the Greys.

Joliet vs Windy City

The Joliet Slammers and Windy City ThunderBolts were not scheduled to play.

Ottawa vs Tri-City

The Ottawa Titans (41-28) used a Clay Fisher eighth-inning solo shot to hold off a late Tri-City ValleyCats attack to take the middle game of a three-game series 7-6 on Wednesday night.

For a second straight night, the Titans threatened in the first against ValleyCats lefty Ryan Williamson (loss, 2-4), loading up the bases. Dane Tofteland reached on a fielder's choice, bringing home Jackie Urbaez to make it 1-0. After leading off the game with a free pass, Urbaez has reached base safely in 25 consecutive games.

Tyler Jandron (win, 7-3) took to the hill on Wednesday night with an early lead, that was short-lived as Denis Phipps' two-run shot put the ValleyCats in front. Phipps' league-leading 25th of the season put the home side ahead 2-1 after one.

Jake Sanford and AJ Wright recorded back-to-back one-out hits in the third off Williamson, who bounced back by striking out Tofteland for the second out. The bottom of the Titans' order came through with a trio of two-out singles from Fisher, Jason Dicochea, and Tyrus Greene to pull ahead.

Ahead 4-2, Tyler Jandron locked in and retired ten in a row from the second through the sixth. The Titans' offence fed off the energy of their starter to tack on two more in the top half of the fifth, with Dicochea and Greene each knocking in their second of the night to make it 6-2.

In the sixth, Austin Bernard reached on an E5 and later came around on a Cito Culver double to cut into the deficit at 6-3.

Following two shutout innings from Jose Cruz, Carson McCusker belted his second solo shot in as many days, making it a 6-4 game.

With Cruz back out for the eighth, Fisher gave the Titans one last bit of insurance with a solo shot over the fence in left. Fisher's fifth big fly of the season came off the first pitch of the frame.

With the extended lead, Pavin Parks belted a two-run shot to narrow the Titans' lead to one. The homer brought the end of the line for Jandron, who finished with seven and a third innings, allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits, walking one, and striking out a season-high ten in the win.

Gavin Sonnier guided the Titans' one-run lead to the ninth, as Kevin Escorcia took over for the save opportunity. The lefty surrendered a pair of one-out singles, bringing the potential tying and winning runs into scoring position. With the infield in, Escorcia managed to get Bernard to pop out before Culver grounded out to close out the game.
