GATEWAY’S KEVIN KRAUSE AND NEW JERSEY’S JORGE TAVAREZ TAKE WEEKLY AWARDS
After the Grizzlies went 5-1 this week, their utility player didn't disappoint. While the Jackals, went 1-4, their pitcher shined in his appearance. Grizzlies Kevin Krause is this week's Player of the Week while Jackals Jorge Tavarez is Pitcher of the Week.
Krause had himself a week after having 15 hits, nine runs scored, and seven RBIs with one homerun. He had at least one hit or more in five out of the six games played with his best game being against the Lake Erie Crushers on Sunday where he went 3-4 at the plate with one run scored and two RBIs and one homerun. Overall, his performance this week led to a .857 on-base percentage and 1.211 slugging percentage.
Before coming to Gateway in 2022, Krause played for the American Association, another independent baseball league. He also played in the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system from 2014 to 2018. His best season for the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system was in 2017 where he had 78 hits, 10 homeruns, 43 RBIs and 36 runs scored.
Tavarez excelled in his appearance this week. In his appearances against the Sussex County Miners on Friday, Tavarez pitched a no-hitter in 9.0 innings pitched and 147 pitches with six walks and one earned run with 16 strikeouts.
Before coming to New Jersey in 2022, Santana played for the Gateway Grizzlies in 2021. Before Gateway, he played in the minor leagues with the Los Angeles Angels organization for five seasons. His best season was in 2016 where he had a 4-3 record with 49 strikeouts, 2.05 ERA, and only seven walks.
