WILD THINGS DEFEAT Y'ALLS AS ANTHONY BROCATO SHINES IN DEBUT AGAINST FORMER TEAM

Florence vs Washington

The Washington Wild ran their win streak against Florence to eight games by beating the Y'alls 7-3 on Ladies Night Out presented by Range Resources. Washington scored runs in four-straight innings and struck out ten batters in the victory.

After falling behind 3-0 going into the bottom of the third, Washington's offense came to life. Anthony Brocato, making his Wild Things' debut against his former team, hit an RBI groundout to short to score Jared Mang, putting Washington on the board. Wagner Lagrange hit an RBI double that same inning to make it a one-run game.

Ian Walters and Tristan Peterson hit back-to-back solo home runs in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead, and the Wild Things never looked back. Lagrange hit an RBI single in the fifth, and Brocato notched his second RBi with a sacrifice fly to score Mang in the sixth to make it 6-3. Mang hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth as an insurance run to make it 7-3.

For the top of the ninth, Christian James remained on the mound after coming in for the eighth. He struck out the first batter before allowing a double for the next batter. Another strikeout by James and pop-fly to Ward ended the game. James struck out four batters in two innings in the save.

Hayden Pearce was the starting pitcher for Washington this game. He pitched five innings, allowed three runs, five hits, two walks and struck out three. Kenny Pierson relieved Pearce in the sixth, pitched two innings, allowed one hit and struck out three.

Quebec vs Trois-Rivières

The Quebec Capitales defeated the Trois-Rivières Aigles by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday night at the Stade Quillorama.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth.

The Aigles would get on the scoreboard first with a two-run homer from Juan Santana.

The Capitales would retaliate in the top of the eighth where they would score three runs with the help from Marc-Antoine Lebreux, David Glaude, and T.J. White and would ultimately lead to their win.

Franklin Parra would get the win for Quebec while Nick Horvath got the save. Matt Reitz gets charged with the loss for the Aigles.

New Jersey vs New York

The host New York Boulders got four hits from David Vinsky and three apiece from Jake MacKenzie and Austin Dennis and downed the visiting New Jersey Jackals, 12-9, on Tuesday at Clover Stadium in Pomona.

The game was tied through 6 1/2  innings at 7-7 when the Boulders broke through against New Jersey reliever Dylan Peiffer, the third Jackals' pitcher of the game. A Jake MacKenzie single snapped the tie and was followed by an RBI double by Ray Hernandez, his third hit of the evening, a two-run single by Max Smith, his second and third RBI of the contest, and an RBI double from David Vinsky, his fourth hit of the night.

New Jersey got two back in the eighth to close to within 12-9 - one run scoring on a Dylan Smith passed ball and the other on a double by Edward Salcedo. However, Zach Schneider came on for the Boulders to keep the Boulders' lead at three.

The Boulders broke on top with a solo home run in the first inning by David Vinsky, his 19th of the season. New Jersey evened it in the second with an unearned run.

New York answered with three runs in the second - one on a sacrifice fly by Giovanni Garbella, another via a solo home run from Max Smith, his 15th of the year, the third on an Austin Dennis double, the second of his three hits on the night.

The Jackals scored three times in the fourth and fifth innings. Over those two innings, they got a two-run single from Jason Agresti, a sacrifice fly, an RBI double by Alfredo Marte and a two-run homer run from Justin Wylie, his 16th of the season.

The Boulders got one in the fourth on a double by Dennis and two in the fifth - one on Gabriel Garcia's 16th of the year and one on a grounder by Garbella, which turned out to an inning ending triple play.

With the bases loaded, Garbella hit a hard hit grounder up the middle that bounced off second baseman Justin Wylie's shin to shortstop Santiago Chirino, who stepped on second base and fired to first to double up Garbella.

New Jersey first baseman Dalton Combs threw home to catcher Jason Agresti, who tagged out Jake MacKenzie to complete the triple play.

Matt Leon picked up the win for the Boulders, improving to 5-0 on the year, while Leo Pineda got the final out of the game to record his seventh save of the season. Peiffer was tagged with the loss for New Jersey as he dropped to 3-2 on the year.

Schaumburg vs Lake Erie

The Lake Erie Crushers came from behind to erase an early deficit at Mercy Health Stadium on Tuesday night, as they took the series opener in a 7-5 win over the Schaumburg Boomers.

The Crushers (39-40) have now won five out of their last six games, while the loss for Boomers (43-35) was their first in four games against the Crushers this season.

Schaumburg was able to get on the board first, scoring a pair of runs with two outs in the top of the first inning. Alec Craig led the game off with a base hit and moved to second on Mike Hart's one out single. Clint Hardy drove them both home later in the inning on a two out single to left.

Lake Erie answered in the bottom of the second, when Kemuel Thomas-Rivera began the inning with a solo homer to left, his fifth of the season.

The Boomers added another run in the top of the fourth inning, on another two out hit. Brett Milazzo started the frame with a double and came around to score on Craig's two out RBI single to left.

The Crushers sent eight batters to the plate and scored four times on three hits to take a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Newly acquired D.J. Stewart started the inning with a double down the line in left. Austin White then walked, and Bryan DeLaRosa laid a sacrifice bunt down to move Stewart to third and White to second. Najee Gaskins then reached on a fielding error by shortstop Alec Craig which brought Stewart home. Lake Erie then executed a double steal which scored White to tie the game. Connor Owings followed with a RBI single to right to give Lake Erie the lead and he came around to score later in the inning on Kenen Irizarry's RBI single up the middle.

Schaumburg answered with a run of their own in the top of the sixth inning. William Salas drove in the run on a two out RBI double down the right field line, which knocked Lake Erie starting pitcher Joseph Sgambelluri (8-5) out of the game. Walks were issued to the next two batters to load the bases for Chase Dawson and Kyle Seebach struck him out to end the inning.

Lake Erie was able to add two big insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull away. DeLaRosa started the inning with a single to center and Gaskins moved him to second on a sacrifice bunt before a wild pitch put him on third. Owings brought DeLaRosa home on a sacrifice fly and Irizarry belted a run scoring single to plate Owings later in the inning.

Schaumburg added one last run in the top of the ninth inning when Mike Hart belted a solo homer to right.

Sgambelluri picked up the victory after allowing four runs on seven hits while fanning six batters through five and two-thirds. Alexis Rivero (14) surrendered a run on a hit in the ninth, but picked up the save. Nathan Holt and Sam Curtis both tossed scoreless innings in relief. Shumpei Yoshikawa (5-9) took the loss for the Boomers after allowing five runs, three earned on five hits over six innings.

Irizarry and Thomas-Rivera led the Crushers offensively with two hits each, on a night where  eight out of the starting nine reached safely at least once. Owings drove in a pair of runs and has now hit safely in six straight games.

Empire State vs Sussex County

The Sussex County Miners beat the Empire State Greys 7-2 on Tuesday night at Skylands Stadium.

The Miners quickly got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second by scoring five runs in the inning.

The Greys would get on their mark on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth with a two run home run from Jordan Holloman-Scott to make it 2-5.

However, Sussex County would two more runs between the sixth and eighth inning and making the final score of the game 2-7 bringing them a win.

Dwayne Marshall gets the win for Sussex County while Franklyn Hernandez gets charged with the loss for Empire State.

Windy City vs Evansville

A strong pitching performance from Kenny Mathews and a big offensive performance for Bren Spillane guided the ThunderBolts to a 5-2 victory over the Evansville Otters in the opener of a three-game series at Bosse Field Tuesday night.

After a good early duel between Mathews and Austin Gossman, the scoring started in the top of the fourth. Jake Boone hit a leadoff single and Dan Robinson doubled to put runners at second and third. Spillane followed with a two-run double that put the ThunderBolts (30-48) ahead 2-0. Peyton Isaacson extended the lead by singling in Spillane.

That turned out to be enough for Mathews who continued to dominate Evansville (41-37). The left-hander pitched out of two bases-loaded jams and ended up throwing five shutout innings. In three starts this year against the Otters, he has allowed only one run over 15.2 innings.

Spillane added some insurance to the lead in the eighth inning. After Brynn Martinez singled, he launched his eighth home run of the year to increase the lead to 5-0.

The Otters made it interesting in the bottom of the ninth. They scored two runs on two hits, an error and a walk and, with runners at second and third, they had the tying run in the batter's box. But Layne Schnitz-Paxton finished the game with a strikeout.

Mathews (7-3) picked up his third straight win, striking out four and allowing five hits,  while Gossman (7-5) took his second straight loss, both against the ThunderBolts. He allowed three runs over 6.2 innings.

Gateway vs Joliet

The Gateway Grizzlies were one strike away from sending the game against the Joliet Slammers to the ninth inning up 2-1, but Tyler Depreta-Johnson's two-run, go-ahead base hit off Sam Gardner (5-2) sent them to a stunning 3-2 defeat at Duly Health and Care Field on Tuesday night.

The game began as a pitcher's duel deluxe between Trevor Charpie and Carson LaRue, with both pitchers barely surrendering any baserunners in the first four innings. In the bottom of the fifth, LaRue lost his command, walking three batters and also hitting one in the inning to give the Slammers a 1-0 lead without the aid of a hit. He was able to minimize damage and strand the bases loaded, however, eventually finishing six innings of one-hit, one-run ball.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Grizzlies struck back and took the lead by coming up clutch- with runners at second and third base and two outs, Jay Prather pinch-hit for Alex Hernandez, and came through with a two-run single to right field, putting the Grizzlies ahead 2-1. Nick Kennedy then worked around a one-out double for a scoreless bottom half to hold the lead.

But in the eighth, after Gardner got a strikeout and a tremendous diving play at shortstop by Abdiel Diaz for a fielder's choice, he issued his second walk of the inning to put the tying run in scoring position. Gardner then got ahead of Depreta-Johnson 0-2 before the Joliet shortstop lined a base hit to center field, giving the Slammers the lead on just their third hit of the entire game. Tyler Jay then retired the Grizzlies in order in the ninth to end the game, dealing Gateway their third one-run loss in their last five games overall.
