TITANS RE-SIGN ALL-STAR WRIGHT

TITANS RE-SIGN ALL-STAR WRIGHT

The Ottawa Titans Baseball Club announced today the re-signing of infielder AJ Wright for the upcoming 2023 Frontier League season.

Wright, 26, returns to the hot corner in Ottawa after an all-star nod during the 2022 campaign. In 88 regular season games, he hit .277 with 12 homers and 54 RBI. The 5-foot-10 infielder led the club during its postseason run, going 5-for-14 at the dish with two doubles, a home run, and four RBI.

The Cherry Hill, New Jersey native started his professional career in the Empire League in 2021, winning a Silver Slugger Award. He then joined the Missoula PaddleHeads of the Pioneer League late in the season, appearing in 12 games hitting .375 with two home runs, and six RBI, on route to a league championship.

During Missoula's championship run, Wright went 3-for-3 with a triple, two homers, and a career-high seven RBI in a winner-take-all third game in Boise.

Prior to professional baseball, Wright attended the University of Maryland-Baltimore County (Baltimore, Maryland), where he spent four seasons hitting a career .273 in 193 games.

In other news, the Titans have exercised some club options and declined others. The accept or decline of the option does not guarantee the player will be on the 2023 roster. By exercising their options, the Titans retain the Frontier League rights to these players for next season, but they must sign a new contract.

Players exercised include INF Brendon Dadson, UTIL Jason Dicochea, LHP Kevin Escorcia, C Mitsuki Fukuda, C Tyrus Greene, LHP Grant Larson, OF Rodrigo Orozco, OF Jake Sanford, RHP Kyle Serrano, UTIL Jackie Urbaez, LHP Kenny Williams, LHP Evan Grills, RHP Kaleb Schmidt, UTIL Malik Williams, C Sincarf Loopstok, INF Ivan Marin, and INF Justin Thompson. The club has declined options on INF Andrew Martinez, RHP Nelson Gonzalez, OF Kai Moody, RHP Zac Westcott, and RHP Jose Taveras.

The team has also released INF Clay Fisher, LHP Matt Terrones, and RHP Gavin Sonnier.

The Ottawa Titans open the 2023 season at home on Friday, May 12th against the Empire State Greys. For information on season tickets, group outings, and nine-game mini packs, visit the Titans' official website at www.ottawatitans.com.
