CINCINNATI REDS SIGN LOCAL PROSPECT McMAHILL

CINCINNATI REDS SIGN LOCAL PROSPECT McMAHILL

FLORENCE, KY – The Florence Y'alls are pleased to announce that the Cincinnati Reds have purchased the contract rights to Florence starting pitcher Jake McMahill. It is the first affiliated baseball opportunity for McMahill.

McMahill was only with Florence for a few weeks, but it was a very impactful stretch for the righty. He started four games for the Y'alls and allowed two earned runs or fewer in three of them. He also worked into at least the sixth inning in three of his four starts.

McMahill had a pair of double-digit strikeout games, including a career-high 11 strikeouts in his most recent outing versus Lake Erie earlier this week. He allowed just two runs over a career-high seven innings in the no-decision. The righty struck out 10 Gateway Grizzlie hitters earlier this season as well.

McMahill signed with Florence in mid-June out of Missouri State, an NCAA Tournament team this past spring. In his lone season at Missouri State, McMahill struck out 38 in 31 innings pitched to go along with a 4.50 ERA. The Blue Springs, MO native started his college career at State Fair Community College before spending three years at the University of Evansville prior to Missouri State.

McMahill is the second Y'alls pitcher to land a Minor League Baseball opportunity this season. Left-hander Justin King signed with the Milwaukee Brewers and has had great success so far. Through six appearances, King has a 2-1 record with five strikeouts. He has yet to allow an earned run.
