EAST COAST RAIN POSTPONES 2 GAMES, WEST DIVISION PLAYS ON
Ottawa vs New York
The Ottawa Titans (11-6) defeated the New York Boulders (7-11) on Wednesday night by a score of 11-6.
Ottawa took a 1-0 in the first inning on an A.J. Wright RBI single. The Boulders answered with two runs in their half of the first - one on a run-scoring double by Austin Dennis, the other on a sacrifice fly from Gabriel Garcia,
A Navigato RBI single knotted the game at 2-2 for Ottawa in the second; then Maberry's home run gave the visitors a three-run third inning advantage.
The home runs were the third and fourth of the season for Sanford and were two of the four long balls the Titans hit on the day, Luke Navigato hit a two-run shot in the seventh, his first of the year, that increased the Ottawa lead to 9-6; while David Maberry hit a three-run blast in the third its also his first of the season, that, at that time, gave the Titans a 5-2 advantage.
Sanford, who ended the day with four RBI and four hits, increased the Titans' lead to 6-2 with a fourth inning sacrifice fly.
However, New York responded with a four-run fifth inning that evened the ledger at 6-6. Max Smith drove in one run with a single before Jake MacKenzie drew a bases loaded walk that brought the home team within 6-4. Chris Kwitzer followed with a two-run single that tied the game at 6-6.
Austin Kaplan, the second of four pitchers used on this day by New York, was tagged with the loss in his first decision of the season.
Gavin Sonnier picked up his first win of the year against no losses for Ottawa.
Lake Erie vs Evansville
The Evansville Otters (9-8) defeated the Lake Erie Crushers (8-9) on Wednesday morning.
The Crushers scored two runs by Jackson Valera's RBI single and Kikki Figueriredo's home run. The Crushers would score in the fourth and fifth innings on home runs. D. Perez hit a three-run home run in the fourth and C, owings hit a two run home run in the fifth.
The Otters would have a huge eight-run third inning to take a 9-2 lead. After the Crushers cut the lead to 9-7 in the fifth, the Otters would score 7 unanswered runs. The Otters top performers at the plate were Elijah MacNamee, Gary Mattis and Miles Gordon. They combined for 10 RBIs on nine hits.
Crushers starting pitcher Kaleb Schmidt would take his third loss on the season only throwing three innings allowing six hits, nine runs, eight earned, three walks and four strikeouts. Merrick Crouse and Ryan Campbell would come in relief.
Brett Adcock started for the Otters. He would throw three innings, allowing seven hits, five earned runs, five walks and two strikeouts. He would not receive a decision. Jacob Bowles, Joe Riley and Samson Abernathy would pitch in relief. Bowles would earn his first win of the season. He would throw four innings, allowing two hits, two earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts.
Washington vs Florence
The Florence Y'alls (5-11) defeated the Washington Wild Things (10-7) on Wednesday night to end a four game losing streak.
Washington got the scoring going in the second inning with an RBI single from Cole Brannen that scored Andrew Czech.
In the fourth inning the Y'alls would take a 3-1 lead thanks to a three-run homer off the bat of Brennan Price. A fourth run would score in the fifth on a wild pitch.
The Wild Things tied the game 4-4 in the sixth inning with RBI singles by Brannen, Alex Alvarez and Nick Ward.
The Y'alls would answer back in the bottom of the sixth inning with Brocato's solo home run making it 5-4. Brocato would hit a 2 RBI single to left field in the bottom of the seventh to make it 7-4.
The Wild Things would make one last push to tie when L.G. Castillo hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning but it wouldn't be enough.
Wild Things starter Daren Osby would get a no-decision in the ball game after pitching five innings, allowing three hits, four earned runs, four walks and five strikeouts. Nick Beardsley and Jake Pilarski would come in relief. Beardsley would earn his first loss of the season, throwing two innings, allowing five hits, three earned runs, and one strike out.
The Y'alls starter, Jonaiker Villalobos would also receive a no-decision. He threw five and one-thirds innings allowing eight hits, three runs, two earned, one walk and recorded three strikeouts. David Stiehl, Evan Brabrand, Karl Craigie and Joe Dougherty would come in relief. Brabrand would earn his first win after throwing one and one-thirds innings and one walk. Dougherty would earn his second save of the season, throwing one inning and walking one batter.
Empire State vs Quebec Capitales
The Quebec Capitales (14-3) defeated the Empire State Greys (0-17) on Wednesday night by a score of 8-0. The Capitales got on the board early with a single from T.J. White to drive in Jeffry Parra. The Capitales would have at least one home run in the next two innings with one by Parra and the other by Josh McAdams and the other by Pedro Gonzalez.
Quebec would finish out their scoring in the sixth when Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly and then David Glaude singled to finish out the scoring to be 8-0.
Paiva would get the win for Quebec while Becerril would get charged with the loss for the Greys.
Schaumburg vs Joliet
The Joliet Slammers (8-10) defeated the Schaumburg Boomers (11-6) in a final score of 2-1 on Friday night in game two of the Metra series.
The Boomers would score in the first inning on a Braxton Davidson RBI groundout but that is all they could get across the plate.
The Slammers would tie the game in the third inning on a wild pitch. Matt McGarry would break the stalemate in the bottom of the seventh inning on a sac fly RBI.
Boomers starting pitcher Ryan Middendorf received a no-decision. He threw six innings, allowing seven hits, one earned run, no walks and recorded 10 strikeouts. Erik Martinez and Thomas Nicoll would come in relief. Martinez would earn his first loss of the season, throwing only one inning, allowing two hits, one earned run and recording one strikeout.
Joliet's starter, Cameron Aufderheide, earned his first win of the season after throwing seven innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, three walks, and recording five strikeouts. Cole Stanton and Kaleb Honea would come in relief. Honea earned his second save of the season, throwing one inning and recording one strikeout.
Windy City vs Gateway
The Windy City ThunderBolts (10-7) defeated the Gateway Grizzlies (9-8) on Friday night 5-4. The ThunderBolts have won 8 of their last 9 games.
The ThunderBolts scored first in the fourth inning thanks to a 3 RBI double by Jake Boone. Dayrl Myers would hit an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning to make it 4-0.
Gateway responded in the bottom of the fifth with an Abdiel Diaz RBI groundout and Trevor Achenbach hit a 2 run homer to make the score 4-3. The Grizzlies would fight again, as they did last night, and tie the game at 4 runs a piece in the eighth inning off a sac fly RBI by Breland Almadova.
However, the story of the night again was Jairus Richards. In back-to-back nights he put the Bolts ahead in the ninth inning with a home run making it 5-4.
Grizzlies newest signee and starting pitcher Andres Rodriguez, would receive a no-decision. He threw four innings allowing four hits, three earned runs, one walk and recorded nine strikeouts. Carter Hayes, Andrew Cartier, Colton Easterwood, John Murphy and Carson Cupo all came in the game to relieve Rodriguez. Carson Cupo would take the loss, giving up his first run of the season on the home run by Richards, ending his scoreless streak at eight and two-thirds innings.
The ThunderBolts starter Garrett Christman would receive a no-decision. He threw six innings, allowing seven hits, three earned runs, one walk and recorded four strikeouts. Niel Abbatiello, Daniel Kight and Layne Schnitz-paxton would come in relief. Kight earned his second win of the season with one inning pitched, one walk and a strike out. Schnitz-paxton earned his third save of the season, closing it out in the ninth with a 1-2-3 inning.
Postponed Games
Trois-Rivieres vs New Jersey
The Trois-Rivières Aigles(8-8) and New Jersey Jackals(6-9) game got postponed due to rain. The two teams will make up the game in a double-header on June 2nd with the first game starting at 4:00 p.m. with the first game being a nine inning game because it had already been started, followed by a seven inning game that will take place between 30 minutes to an hour after the first game.
Sussex County vs Tri-City
The Sussex County Miners (9-8) and Tri-City ValleyCats (9-6) game got postponed due to rain. The two teams will make up the game in a double-header on June 2nd with the first game starting at 3:30 p.m., followed by a second game that will take place between 30 minutes to an hour after the first game.
