BOULDERS DEFEAT QUEBEC, NEW RECORD BY EMPIRE STATE
Florence vs Gateway
The Florence Y'alls (11-17) defeated the Gateway Grizzlies (13-16) with a final score of 11-3.
Gateway jumped out early in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run by Isaac Benard to get the scoring started. Florence would get a run back on a balk in the top of the second inning making the game 2-1.
In the top of the fifth inning Florence would tie the game on an RBI single to left field by Andres Sthormes followed by an RBI sac fly by Ray Zuberer to take a 3-2 lead.
Gateway would respond by tying the game in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI sac fly by Benard as he would bat all the Grizzlies' runs in.
The Y'alls' bats woke up in the top of the seventh inning scoring seven runs. Ian Bibiloni started the scoring off with a two-run home run followed by a solo home run by Zuberer. An RBI single by Brennan Price and a 3 RBI double by Joe Lytle would give the Y'alls a 10-3 lead. Zuberer would hit his second home run of the day in the following inning to cap off the game's score at 11-3.
Gateway's starter, Sam Gardner, lasted five innings allowing three hits, three earned runs, one walk and struck out six batters. He would receive a no-decision. Taylor Sugg, Carson Cupo and Lukas Veinbergs would come in relief. Sugg would earn the loss in his one and two-thirds inning of work. Sugg allowed two hits, six earned runs, four walks and struck out two batters in his outing.
Florence's starter, Jake McMahill, lasted four innings allowing three hits, two earned runs, four walks and struck out one batter. McMahill would also receive a no-decision. Alex Wagner, Evan Brabrand and Darwin Ramos would come in relief. Wagner earned the win after three innings of work while allowing only two hits, one earned run, one walk and three strikeouts.
Lake Erie Crushers vs Windy City
The Windy City ThunderBolts (14-14) defeated the Lake Erie Crushers (12-17) with a final score of 9-3.
The Crushers scored in the top of the first inning on a solo shot to left center field by Kenen Irizarry. They would add another run in the top of the third on a fielding error to make it 2-0.
The Bolts responded in the bottom of the third on a two RBI single by Daryl Myers and a sac fly RBI by Jake Boone to take a 3-2 lead. Windy City added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth with big at bats by Brian Fuentes and Brynn Martinez hitting solo home runs in the inning to expand their lead 5-2.
The Crushers were able to get one last run on the board thanks to a solo home run by Jack Harris making it 5-3 in the top of the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, Windy City scored on a double play ground out by Manny Garcia and Jarius Richards would hit a three-run homer to make it 9-3.
Lake Erie's starter, Matt Mulhearn, took the loss in his four innings of work. He allowed six hits, five earned runs, one walk and struck out six batters. Carter Hayes and Trevor Kuncl came in relief pitching two innings each.
Windy City's starter, Kenny Mathews, earned the win in his five innings of work. He allowed eight hits, three runs, two earned, one walk while striking out six batters. Neil Abbatiello, Brayden Bonner and Cal Djuraskovic came in relief.
Evansville vs Schaumburg
The Evansville Otters (19-10) narrowly defeated the Schaumburg Boomers (14-14) with a final score of 11-10.
In a back and forth battle all game the Otters scored first on an RBI double by Justin Felix in the top of the second inning.
The Boomers would respond in the bottom of the second with an RBI single by Thomas Debonville, a two RBI single by Brett Milazzo and an RBI double by Alec Craig to give the Boomers a 4-1 lead.
The Otters wouldn't give up so easily as they would get two runners on in the top of the third for Steven Sensley to hit a three run home run to tie the game at four runs a side.
Schaumburg retaliated at the bottom of the third and took a 5-4 lead on a Clint Hardy RBI double.
Evansville and Schaumburg were silent in the fourth but in the fifth inning, Evansville's bats would put up five more runs. Zach Biermann hit a solo home run followed by another three-run home run by J.R. Davis. A sac bunt by Andy Armstrong would cap the scoring for that inning making it 9-5.
Schaumburg would close in the bottom of the fifth scoring on an RBI triple by Dawson who would later score on a wild pitch making it 9-7.
Biermann would hit his second home run of the game in the top of the sixth inning to make it 10-7. Boomer's Matt Bottcher and current Frontier League batting leader would respond in the bottom of the sixth with a two run homer to make it 10-9.
Biermann would come back to bat again in the eighth and hit his third home run of the game to make it 11-9.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Boomers were on track to make a comeback and possibly walk the Otters off when Clint Hardy hit an RBI single up the middle to make it 11-10. Unfortunately, Schaumburg couldn't complete the comeback.
Schaumburg's starter, Kyle Arjona, took the loss after throwing four and one-third innings allowing 11 hits, nine earned runs, one walk and striking out two batters. Kristian Scott, Jake Joyce and Darrell Thompson all came in relief.
Evansville's starter, Justin Watland, received a no-decision in his four innings of work. He allowed 11 hits, seven earned runs, three walks and struck out four batters. Jacob Bowles, Jake Polancic, Logan Sawyer and Joe Riley all came in relief. Polancic earned the win after throwing just one inning and striking out one batter. Riley earned the save after pitching the ninth inning and allowing two hits, one earned run, one walk and striking out one batter.
Washington vs Joliet
The Washington Wild Things (18-11) defeated the Joliet Slammers (16-14) with a final score of 11-3.
Joliet scored in the bottom of the second on a Phillip Steering solo home run to left field.
The Wild Things would load the bases in the top of the third inning for Scotty Dubrule to hit a grand slam to take a 4-1 lead. Dubrule would hit a two RBI double in the top of the fourth after Alex Alvarez hit a solo home run to make it 7-1.
Joliet managed to get on the board again on a Dave Matthews solo shot to center field making it 7-2.
However, the Wild Things bat's were alive as Wagner Lagrange hit a solo shot to center field as well in the top of the seventh inning.
In the top of the eighth inning Jared Mang would hit a three-run home run to help the Wild Things run away with the game making it 11-2.
Joliet had some fight left in them as they managed one more run on a Matt Burch solo home run to right center field making it 11-3.
Joliet's starter, Logan Schmitt, took the loss after five innings of work. He allowed nine hits, seven earned runs, three walks and struck out one batter. Cole Stanton, Tanner Kiest and Justin Gomez came in relief.
Washington's starter, Thomas Hart, earned the win in his six innings of work. He allowed five hits, two earned runs, no walks and struck out four batters. Christian James, Kenny Pierson and Lukas Young came in relief.
Trois-Rivières vs Ottawa
The Ottawa Titans (19-7) defeated the Trois-Rivières Aigles (11-15) with a final score of 9-7.
The Aigles got things started in the top of the second inning scoring five runs. A RBI hit by pitch followed by a RBI single by Yareb Martinez, an RBI single by L.P. Pelletier, an RBI fielder's choice by Juan Kelly and an error put Trois-Rivieres ahead 5-0.
The Titans came back in the bottom of the inning and made up a lot of ground. They started with a three-run home run by Rodrigo Orozco and an RBI single by A.J. Write to cut the lead to 5-4.
In the fourth inning Pelletier gave the Agiles some room on a solo home run and in top of the fifth another run came home on a wild pitch making it 7-4.
The Titans managed to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on an Andrew Martinez two-run homer and an RBI double by Brendon Dadson to make it 7-7.
In the bottom of the seventh Orozco hit a sac fly RBI to give the Titans the lead and Jackie Urbaez also hit a sac fly for an insurance run making it 9-7.
Trois-Rivieres' starter, Sam Belisle-Springer, received a no-decision through his five and one thirds innings of work. He allowed 10 hits, seven earned runs, two walks and struck out three batters. James Bradwell and Christian Allegretti came in relief. Bradwell would take the loss in his one inning of work where he allowed two hits, two unearned runs, no walks and struck out two batters.
Ottawa's starter, Evan Grills would receive a no-decision through his five and two thirds innings of work. He allowed nine hits, seven runs, six earned, no walks and struck out five batters. Kyle Serrano, Gavin Sonnier and Kevin Escorcia came in relief. Sonnier earned the win for his two innings of work where he recorded one strike out while allowing no hits, runs or walks. Escorcia earned the save for hits inning of work where he struck out two batters.
New Jersey vs Tri-City
The New Jersey Jackals (11-14) defeated the Tri-City ValleyCats (14-13) with a final score of 15-5.
The Jackals scored first in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Dalton Combs and a sac fly RBI by Justin Wylie giving them a 2-0 lead.
Tri-City managed to tie the game 2-2 in the bottom of the inning with RBI singles by Dennis Phipps and Juan Silverio.
The Jackals wasted no time as they scored again in the top of the second inning on a RBI double by Joe Simone, a two RBI single by Santiago Chirino and a two-run homer by Alfredo Marte giving them a 7-2 lead.
Tri-City retaliated with a RBI groundout by Jesus Lujano and a two-run homer by Phillps to make it 7-5.
The Jackals would go on in the top of the fourth to give themselves some more room on the scoreboard with a RBI sac fly by Combs and a two-run homer by Marte making it 10-5. It would not stop there as in the top of the fifth inning, an RBI single by Zak Whalin, a two RBI single by Simone, and another RBI single by Combs would make it 14-5. In the top of the ninth inning the Jackals tacked on one more run on a RBI groundout by Simone making it 15-5.
Tri-City's starter, Leo Crawford, took the loss in his three innings of work. He allowed nine hits and earned runs, no walks and struck out one batter. Alexander Guillen, Jake Sexter and Eric Ezersky came in relief.
New Jersey's starter, Leonardo Rodriguez, earned the win in his five innings of work. He allowed seven hits, five earned runs, two walks and struck out four batters. Nicholas DeSalvo and Austin Smith came in relief.
Quebec vs New York
The New York Boulders (14-15) defeated the Quebec Capitales (22-6) with a final score of 6-1.
The Boulders scored in the bottom of the second on a Chris Kewitzer RBI single to give them an early 1-0 lead. The game would stay fairly quiet until the bottom of the seventh inning. A two RBI single by Steven Figueroa and a three run home run by David Vinsky would give the Boulders a 6-0 lead late in the game.
The Capitales would manage to get on the board with a Pedro Gonzales solo home run but that would be all the offense Quebec would get.
Quebec's starter, John Witkowski, took the loss for his three innings of work. He allowed seven hits, one earned run, two walks and struck out three batters. Franklin Parra, Ian Codina, Joel Huertas, Henry Omana and Marshall Shill all came in relief.
New York's starter, Lucas Burton, would receive a no-decision for his two innings of work where he allowed two hits, no runs, one walk and struck out three batters. Andrew Hammond, Dylan Smith, Ryan Munoz, Zach Schneider and Alex Mack all came in relief. Hammond earned the win for his two and two thirds innings of work where he allowed only two hits and struck out one batter.
Empire State vs Sussex County
The Sussex County Miners (16-14) defeated the Empire State Greys (0-27) with a final score of 18-8.
The Greys scored first in the game on a two RBI single by Hiroki Itakura to give them an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
The Miners would retaliate with a big bottom of the third inning. Martin Figueroa got things started for Sussex County with an RBI single, followed by a David Maberry two RBI single to give the Miners the lead 3-2. Nilo Rijo would hit another RBI single followed by Isaiss Quiroz' sac fly RBI to make it 5-2. A walk would bring in another run for the Miners, which would precede a two RBI single by Kevin Rolon to extend the Miners' lead 8-2. Figueroa would hit another RBI single, followed by a two RBi double by Maberry and finally a RBI single by Rijo to give Sussex County a 13-2 lead in the bottom of the third inning.
Empire State managed to score in the top of the fourth with a Itakura two RBI single and score on an error to cut the lead to 13-5.
Sussex County scored two runs on a walk and hit by pitch in the bottom of the fourth. They would also score again in the bottom of the sixth inning on RBI singles by Maberry and Rijo and another run would score on a walk making the lead 18-5.
The Greys attempted a comeback in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI double by Jordan Holloman-Scott and a RBI single by Trey Woosley. The effort continued in the top of the eighth with a solo homer by Edwardo Salcedo to make it 18-8 but the lead was too large for a comeback.
Empire State's starter, Connor Maguire, took the loss. He lasted two and two thirds innings, allowing five hits, eight runs, four earned, four walks and no strikeouts. Johsson Arias, Zach Gettys, Donnie Speranza, Marco Becerril and Jason Pineda all came in relief.
Sussex County's starter, Michael Mediavilla, earned the win for his six innings of work. He allowed five hits, five runs, two earned, three walks and six strikeouts. Eston Stull, Darwin Matos and Cody Whitten all came in relief.
The Greys have surpassed the longest losing streak in MLB history, which was held by the 1889 Louisville Colonels. The longest streak by a pro baseball league team belongs to the 1875 Brooklyn Atlantics with 31 straight losses.
