CAPITALES ADD PEDRO GONZALEZ AND WEBB LITTLE

Two new position players join the 2022 edition of the Capitales de Québec with the signings of outfielder Pedro Gonzalez and infielder Webb Little .

Gonzalez, 24, from the Dominican Republic, is a right-handed hitter who started his professional career in 2015 with the Colorado Rockies after being recognized as one of the top international prospects. He was later traded to the Texas Rangers in 2017, a season that saw him finish with impressive batting stats: .294/.364/.476. It was with this organization that his power developed at the A level, hitting 12 home runs in 2018 and 23 the following year, in addition to adding several doubles and triples to his record.

In 2019, his performances earned him 24th place among the Rangers' top prospects, a selection on the South Atlantic League All-Star Team and a tie for the league's long-ball leader.

"Gonzalez has intriguing potential because he's very athletic, has plenty of batting power and can really help us in the outfield with his speed and his arm," manager Patrick Scalabrini said.

However, the 2021 season was more difficult for the 6'6" and 230 lbs athlete, after his promotion to the A+ level. Scalabrini is confident he will return to success in the Frontier League after hitting .238/.305/.413 in his six seasons in affiliate baseball.

For his part, Webb Little joins the team from the capital following a trade with the Idaho Falls Chukars of the Pioneer League in return for a player to be named later. He has a more conventional track record than Gonzalez, but batting skills that have proven themselves at every stop so far in his career. In 2021, the 24-year-old left-handed hitter had his best campaign with an offensive line of .341/.425/.583, including 35 doubles, 6 triples and 15 home runs, stats that earned him a spot on the Pioneer League All-Star Team.

"I've had great feedback on Little and he's a stick I'd like to see in the lineup, but his defensive role is yet to be determined," according to Scalabrini.

With the recent signings of the Quebec organization and certain roles to be defined within the alignment, the start of training camp, scheduled for May 1, 2022, promises to be exciting for baseball fans in the Quebec City region.
