COLOMBIAN HURLER HERNANDO MEJIA JOINING AIGLES' BULLPEN

The Trois-Rivières Aigles have added a power reliever to their bullpen as they signed a contract with pitcher Hernando Mejia.

Originally from Colombia, Mejia played two seasons in affiliated baseball within the Philadelphia Phillies organization in 2018 and 2019. Over the last two winters, the 23-year-old right-hander played in the Colombian Winter League for the Vaqueros de Monteria. He appeared in two games for Columbia in the 2023 Caribbean World Series.  Mejia, a colossus measuring 6ft 3in and 230 pounds, was also highly recommended by his compatriot and adopted Trois-Rivières resident, Steve Brown.

"He has the power and precision to become very formidable among our next generation. He is in great shape since he plays during the winter in his country. His fastball, which reaches 93 miles per hour and more, and his excellent sliding ball should delight fans at Quillorama Stadium this summer!", Mentions Eagles manager Matthew Rusch, who expects to see Mejia battle for the number one reliever position.

Mejia's signing joins that of outfielder Louis-Philippe Pelletier, first baseman Dalton Combs and pitchers Osman Gutierrez, Didier Vargas and Logan Hofmann for the 2024 season.

The Aigles will begin their 11th season – their 3rd in the Frontier League – on May 10, 2024 when they visit the Sussex County Miners. As for the local opening at Stade Quillorama, it is scheduled for May 17, 2024 against the newest member of the circuit, the New England Knockouts.
