OTTERS VS BOOMERS WILD CARD PREVIEW WITH LINEUPS

SEPTEMBER 5TH, 2023 - Tuesday night marks the opening day of the 2023 Frontier League Postseason, the 30th such occasion.

In the west, the Schaumburg Boomers welcome the Evansville Otters to Wintrust Field for a wild card elimination game. This is a rematch of last year's west division wild card game, which the Boomers won 1-0.

These teams know each other well, having just spent another season jostling for the western playoff spots. These clubs also just completed a three game set against each other to cap off the regular season. The stakes, however, were small potatoes compared to Tuesday night's prospective matchup.

Come 6:30, Jaime Bennett will turn to Luis Perez (7-5, 4.71) on the bump, Andy McCauley will hand the ball to Tim Holdgrapher (9-5, 2.65).

Both squads coasted into the postseason, the Otters went 5-5 in their last 10 while the Boomers went 4-6.

The Otters feature an excellent bullpen to back up Holdgrapher, led by Kevin Davis, Leoni De La Cruz and Jake Polancic.

Led by Chase Dawson and Gaige Howard, the Boomers are a contact heavy lineup that can grind out at bats. If all goes to plan for the Boomers, expect McCauley to have to turn to his pen relatively early.

Nobody hits fewer home runs than the Boomers, with only 53 leaving the yard off Boomer bats this season. However, they are hitting .278 as a team with a .389 obp.

Given the strengths and weaknesses of these teams, and the playoff familiarity of both managers, we could be in for a tense pitching duel this evening, either way, it will all be live on FloSports.
