TITANS SHUTOUT AIGLES IN HOME PRE-SEASON DEBUT

Ottawa, ON - In their 2023 home debut, the Ottawa Titans blanked the Trois-Rivières Aigles 3-0 on Tuesday.

Following a clean top of the first inning, Jackie Urbaez cashed in a leadoff walk from AJ Wright with an opposite-field double against right-hander Tucker Smith (loss). Two batters later, Jamey Smart doubled the lead with an RBI ground out.

The runs would be plenty for Titans starter Trevor Clifton (win), who went five shutout frames and only allowed one hit while striking out five.

After adding one in the fifth, Justin Thompson's two-run home run to left field in the seventh inning would keep the momentum on the Titans' side. A wild pitch in the eighth inning would force home the final run of the night.

Alec Thomas, Gleyvin Pineda, Nigel Calmes, and Taylor Lepard kept the shutout bid intact with four clean innings out of the bullpen. In the victory, the Titans' pitching staff recorded 13 strikeouts and allowed only two hits.

Offensively, AJ Wright went 3-for-3 with a double, two walks, and three runs scored, while Jamey Smart went 2-for-5 and Ivan Marin posted a 2-for-4 night.

The Ottawa Titans end the pre-season tomorrow night at home against the Québec Capitales at 6:30 pm. The club opens the 2023 season at home on Friday, May 12th against the Empire State Greys.
