METS SIGN TYLER JAY

Slammers lefty Tyler Jay has had his contract purchased by the New York Mets. The University of Illinois product had previously spent time in the Twins and Reds farm systems. This season for Joliet, he had appeared in 20 games, logging 57 innings pitched and posting a 4.26 ERA with 64 strikeouts.

Slammers manager Dan Schlereth had this to say about losing Jay to the Mets.

"Tyler Jay has made a tremendous impact on our team, Can't think of a guy more deserving of another shot at fulfilling his dream in becoming a big leaguer. He has been dominant for us and a true professional throughout his time with Joliet.

We wish him nothing but the very best as he continues his career with the Mets organization. They are getting a great player and an even better person. He is a true student of the game and a guy who wants the ball in high leverage situations."
