KNOCKOUTS ADD POWER WITH OUTFIELDER MARK HERRON, JR.

The New England Knockouts have signed outfielder Mark Herron Jr. to a Frontier League contact. Herron was a professional free agent prior to the signing.

Herron, 26 years old, joins the Knockouts with novice experience in professional baseball. In 2023, Herron was a member of the independent Pioneer League, playing for both the Rocky Mountain Vibes and the Idaho Falls Chukars. Between the two teams, Herron averaged .303 at the plate, along with 71 RBI's and 13 home runs.

Prior to independent baseball, Herron Jr. gained serious experience playing in the MLB Draft League. He first appeared in 2021, only playing in seven games between the Mahoning Valley Scrappers and West Virginia Black Bears. In 2022, he returned to Mahoning Valley, where he would bat .333 before he joined the Trenton Thunder that same summer. Herron posted 10 RBI's and 24 hits with the Thunder.

Herron would play four years of collegiate baseball in between summers. His initial career began at Delaware State University. From 2019-2021, Herron would not focus on batting average, but rather RBI's. Herron produced 45 RBI's in three seasons, complimented by 6 total home runs. In 2022, Herron transferred to Xavier University of Louisiana. His senior performance grew significantly, batting .294 with 21 RBI's.

Before baseball, Herron Jr. was originally a native of Cortland, Ohio. He attended high school in his hometown, where he would play varsity baseball for most of his pre-college career. Herron made his commitment to Delaware State in June of 2018.
