SCOTT PITCHES OTTERS PAST WILD THINGS

Washington, PA. – Braden Scott threw seven stellar innings with eight strikeouts as the Evansville Otters beat the Washington Wild Things 2-1 on Saturday night at Wild Things Park. Scott allowed just four baserunners over his seven innings of work earning his third win of the season. After a leadoff home run to start the game for Washington, Scott retired 12 consecutive batters. The Wild Things mounted just three singles for their only baserunners the rest of Scott's outing. Kevin Davis pitched a perfect eighth inning from the bullpen before Jake Polancic worked an in-order ninth inning for his 14th save of the year. Ethan Skender delivered the Otters' offense on Saturday. He led off the third inning with a double down the left field line. George Callil knocked him home with a single to tie the game at one. Skender then put the Otters in front with a solo home run over the left field wall in the fifth inning. Dakota Phillips notched a single for his 12th hit of the week and moved his on-base streak to 10 games. George Callil advanced his hit streak to eight games - tied for a season best. Polancic's 14th save ties him for the second most in the league. With the win, the Otters lowered their magic number to eight to clinch their spot in the 2023 Frontier League playoffs. AVON, Ohio — One night after suffering an 11-0 loss to the Gateway Grizzlies, the Lake Erie Crushers used six pitchers on a bullpen day to hold the Grizzlies to a run on seven hits, as they came away with a 2-1 victory on Saturday night at Mercy Health Stadium.

The victory for the Crushers (33-50) snapped a brief three game slide while the loss for the Grizzlies (50-32) was their first in four games against the Crushers this season.

The matchup didn't look great for the Crushers on paper, as they were facing one of the Frontier League's finest starting pitchers in Gateway's Collin Sullivan (10-4). Sullivan hadn't lost a game since July 21st entering Saturday's contest.

While Sullivan pitched well despite the loss, the Crushers received a number of great pitching performances. Darrien Ragins made his second start of the year, and his first since June 20. He tossed four scoreless innings and allowed just three hits while fanning three batters as well. Cal McAninch, Shane Gustafson and Sam Frontino (1-0) all tossed scoreless innings in relief to follow Ragins. Trevor Kuncl allowed a run on two hits and struck out two in the eighth inning, before the Crushers called on one of their starting pitchers, Yasel Santana (1) to slam the door. Santana worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to secure the save.

Lake Erie fired the first shot in the bottom of the first inning. Jiandido Tromp started the inning with a single to center and made his way to second after Scout Knotts was hit by a pitch. Josh Rego brought him home a few moments later on a RBI single to right.

The Crushers added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth. Rego began the inning with a base hit to left. Jarrod Watkins moved him to third on a base hit and Rego came around to score on Jackson Pritchard's sacrifice fly.

Gateway scored their lone run in the top of the eighth inning. Mark Vierling stroked a one out single to center and made his way to second on a wild pitch. Kyle Gaedele drove him home later in the inning on a two out RBI single to left.

Rego paced the Crusher offense, going 2-for-4 with a pair of base hits. Knotts reached safely twice on the night, going 1-for-3 with a single.

The Crushers will finish their six game homestand and their series with the Grizzlies at Mercy Health Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Right-hander Matt Mulhearn (5-5, 3.46) will get the start for the Crushers and the Grizzlies will counter with righty Joey Gonzalez (9-7, 5.11). The first pitch is scheduled for 2:05 PM.

CRESTWOOD, Ill. — Antonio Frias set the team's single game record for strikeouts, punching out 13 as the pitching staff tallied 16 strikeouts in a 5-1 comeback win over the Windy City ThunderBolts to pull the Boomers within a game of first in the West Division on Saturday night in the South Suburbs and collect a fourth straight win.

The Boomers had the leadoff man on base in each of the first two innings but it was Windy City who struck first in the bottom of the second, scoring a single run with two outs. The 1-0 lead held until the sixth as ThunderBolts starter Garrett Christman and Frias put dueling zeroes on the board.

The first two batters reached in the top of the sixth for the Boomers before a throwing error on a bunt attempt allowed two runs to score to hand Schaumburg a 2-1 lead. With one away Travis Holt tripled and Gaige Howard followed with a double to push the lead to 3-1. Two more runs scored in the seventh on an RBI single from Will Prater and a sacrifice fly from Holt.

Frias worked six innings and struck out at least two batters in every inning while fanning the side in the third to earn his third win of the year. Aaron Glickstein tossed two scoreless frames and Daiveyon Whittle closed out the win against his former team by working the ninth. Holt and Prater finished with two hits apiece in the win which was coupled with a Gateway loss at Lake Erie.

The Boomers (48-33) are closing in on securing a third consecutive playoff appearance for the first time in franchise history. The magic number to clinch a playoff spot currently sits at three. The final six-game roadtrip of the year comes to an end at 1:05pm on Sunday afternoon with the final game of the season against the ThunderBolts. RHP Jackson Hickert (5-4, 4.50) will start for the Boomers against LHP Javier Reynoso (3-1, 5.49).
