TITANS WRIGHT WINS PLAYER OF THE WEEK, BOLTS SCHMITT WINS PITCHER OF THE WEEK.

TITANS WRIGHT WINS PLAYER OF THE WEEK, BOLTS SCHMITT WINS PITCHER OF THE WEEK.

JULY 24TH, 2023 - Taylor Wright is this week's Frontier League player of the week! Wright wins the award on the back of a productive week for the Ottawa Titans, going 10-19 with eight runs batted in and a .526 batting average.

Wright and Ottawa kicked off the week on Wednesday with a double header at home against the Tri-City ValleyCats. In game one, Wright picked up a hit as the Titans fell 8-2. In game two, Wright slapped two more base hits and picked up an RBI as the ValleyCats took game two 3-2.

On Thursday, Wright reached base three times, drawing one walk and adding two more base hits; he also drove in two runs as Ottawa took revenge on Tri-City 9-7.

The Titans welcomed the Y'alls to town for a weekend set and the red hot Wright picked up right where he left off, going 3 for 4 with a home run, walk and three runs batted in. As Ottawa raced past Florence 9-2 on Friday night.

Come Saturday, Wright had his streak of multi hit games end as he went 0-2 with a walk and sac fly as Ottawa squeaked one out 6-5.

On Sunday, Wright and Ottawa looked to close out the sweep against Florence. By the time the final out was made they had done just that, despite being out hit eight to four, the Titans won 4-1. Wright added another good performance, going 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Wright also pitched two innings, allowing one run and striking out one.

This week's pitcher of the week is Logan Schmitt of the Windy City ThunderBolts. Schmitt joins Henry Omana as the second Bolts pitcher to win the award this season.

The former St. Louis Bilikin drew the start Thursday against the Empire State Greys. By the time his day was done, he had gone eight innings, striking out eight and only allowing two baserunners. Schmitt needed 103 pitches before he turned it over to Daiveyon Whittle in the ninth.

The Bolts offense staked Schmitt out to a two run lead in the second inning and that turned out to be all he needed. Windy City eventually took the game 3-0 with Schmitt securing his third win of the season.

Schmitt and the Bolts will travel south down I-55 to Sauget where they'll take on the Gateway Grizzlies in a midweek set. Schmitt looks likely to take the ball Wednesday night.
