CATS ALTHERR, SLAMMERS COOK TAKE WEEKLY AWARDS.

CATS ALTHERR, SLAMMERS COOK TAKE WEEKLY AWARDS.

JUNE 19TH, 2023 - This week's player of the week is Tri-City ValleyCat left fielder Aaron Altherr. Altherr becomes the second Cats corner outfielder to win the award this season, joining Carson McCusker.

The former Philadelphia Phillies and NC Dino outfielder was born in Landstuhl, Germany to an American mother and German father. His mother was a member of the United States Air Force and his father was a professional soccer player in the German Bundesliga.

On Wednesday, Altherr played a key role in the Cats 13 run offensive explosion, going 2 for 4 while driving in two runs.

Altherr and the Cats kept things going Thursday to the tune of nine more runs and another victory. Altherr, who has 37 big league home runs to his name, added one to his Frontier League tally as he went 2 for 4 again, driving in two and walking once.

After a Friday wash out, the Cats returned to the field Saturday looking for another win. Altherr scored the first run of the game in the 5th after reaching on a double. He also added another hit, walk and run scored as Tri-City won 6-5 against Florence.

Next up was a Sunday double header, in game one, Altherr homered again and also drew a walk as the Cats took the first game. In game two, Altherr drove in three and drew another walk as Tri-City completed the sweep.

This week's pitcher of the week award belongs to Slammers starter Cole Cook. Cook is the first Slammer to win the award this season and the third West division hurler to win the award.

The Washington, Illinois native and former Bradley Brave went the distance in his lone start of the week, striking out seven and allowing only four baserunners enroute to the complete game.

Thanks to a well-timed double play ball, Cook got through seven innings of work on his home mound only having faced the minimum. By the end of the night, Cook had thrown 93 pitches on his way to blanking the Titans lineup.

Facing a very effective Grant Larson on the mound for Ottawa, Joliet only managed two runs, but thanks to Cook, it was all they would need.

Cook will see the Washington Wild Things in his next start Thursday night, hoping to replicate his results from Friday night.
