BOOMERS TAKE THRILLER IN FLORENCE DESPITE RECORD TYING SIX HIT EFFORT FROM RICHARDSON

FLORENCE, Ky. — The Schaumburg Boomers homered three times and came back from a four-run deficit to claim a wild 15-13 win in 10 innings over the Florence Y'Alls in the opener of a weekend road series.

The first two batters of the game reached for the Boomers as the team jumped out to an early lead. Alec Craig led off the game with a double and scored on an infield single from Travis Holt when the throw to first escaped. Brennan Price tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a leadoff homer, a precursor of his evening. Kokko Figueiredo and Brett Milazzo both dropped down bunt singles in the second and Figueiredo scored on a double steal to put Schaumburg back in front.

Florence tied the contest again with two outs in the third and grabbed the lead when Price connected on a two-run homer with two outs in the fourth, making the score 4-2. A two-run homer from Zade Richardson extended the lead to 6-2 in the fifth. Schaumburg would rally to score the next nine runs and seize control. Figueiredo drilled a three-run homer in the sixth to bring the Boomers within 6-5. Chase Dawson pounded his first homer of the year over the wall in right in the seventh, a two-run shot to put the Boomers ahead. The outburst in the seventh continued with a Milazzo RBI single and a three-run homer from Sonny Ulliana to extend the lead to 11-6.

The Y'Alls had an answer in the form of five consecutive runs to tie the game. Former Boomer Craig Massey hit a solo homer in the seventh and tied the game with a three-run shot in the bottom of the eighth. Bound for extras, Kyle Fitzgerald tallied his 23rd RBI with the bases loaded and Milazzo raked a three-run double to give the Boomers a 15-11 edge. The runs were needed as Florence scored twice in the bottom of the inning and left the bases loaded.

Milazzo drove home four runs. Figueiredo, Dawson and Milazzo all posted three hits. Figueiredo has knocked home 10 in his first five games with the team. Dylan Stutsman earned the win in relief by leaving runners at second and third.

Y'alls Catcher Zade Richardson finished 6-for-6 on the day with two doubles and a home run.

George Callil started the inning with a double before Myers followed with his third hit of the day, scoring Callil. With two outs, the Otters strung together four straight hits. WASHINGTON, Pa. (July 28) – The Washington Wild Things claimed victory over the Joliet Slammers during the first game of their weekend series on Friday night by a score of 8-2.

Justin Showalter shoved in another quality start for Washington, the eighth in the last 13 games for the club since the All-Star Break. Showalter pitched six complete innings, allowing two runs on nine hits and two walks, while striking out four.

The Slammers led by two runs early in this one until Washington scored on sneaky double steal after Anthony Brocato hit a leadoff double and stole third earlier in the inning. The Wild Things cut their slim deficit to one.

Then after another leadoff double, this time by JC Santini the Wild Things tied the game on a sacrifice fly by Wes Darvill that brought home Santini. The Wild Things evened the score in the fifth.

Then Washington added even more runs starting with a leadoff double by Andrew Czech, who later scored on an RBI single by Wagner Lagrange. Then on a run-and-hit scenario Santini hit one through the right side to bring Lagrange across the dish. The electric inning continued as Robert Chayka hit an RBI single and Santini came around to score on a wild pitch. Washington would take the lead 6-2 at the end of the sixth.

The offense continued to pour into their big lead in the eighth inning as they added a pair off a two-run blast off the bat of Anthony Brocato that brought around Wes Darvill who had a leadoff walk to begin the inning.

Brocato's home run was his 20th on the season and tied David Popkins' 2015 20-home run season for 4th place on the single-season home run record list. It's also Washington's first 20-homer year since then, with Brocato accomplishing the feat in 60 games played.

Matt Dallas and Christian James delivered three shutdown innings of relief allowing only one hit and one walk but gave up no runs and struck out three. Dallas got his first pro strikeout in his two innings of work.

Washington will look to keep the roll going tomorrow night in the middle game of their three-game series against the Slammers. Tomorrow night is Canonsburg Community Night presented by Matt Moser State Farm and the first 1,000 fans to enter the ballpark will receive a Chris Sidick Canon-Mac Bobblehead presented by Key Bank. It's also Baseball For All Night. Tomorrow night's first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.

Sauget, IL (July 28, 2023) – The Gateway Grizzlies got four runs across the plate in the bottom of the first inning, then used home runs to expand their advantage while also getting tremendous pitching in a complete, 12-2 victory over the Québec Capitales on Friday night at Grizzlies Ballpark in a matchup between the first-place teams in the Frontier League's East and West divisions.

After Joey Gonzalez (7-6) got out of a jam in the top of the first inning, the Gateway offense went to work right away against Ruben Ramirez (4-2) in the bottom half. Jairus Richards led off with an infield hit, and after Cole Brannen walked, Peter Zimmermann lined a two-run double into the left field corner, putting the Grizzlies ahead 2-0. Later in the inning, Kyle Gaedele and Mark Vierling notched back-to-back, two-out, RBI hits as the Gateway lead was expanded to 4-0.

Québec got two runs back right away on solo home runs (also back-to-back) from David Glaude and Kyle Crowl in the second inning to slice the lead in half, but that was as close as the Capitales would get in the contest, with Gonzalez navigating his way through five innings to earn the win with four strikeouts, and the Grizzlies' bullpen providing four innings of scoreless relief behind him to hold down the offense from the visitors.

Offensively, Gateway would pour it on with the long ball, with Alex Hernandez's three-run homer with two outs in the third making it a 7-2 game, Abdiel Diaz smacking a two-run shot to right field for a 9-2 lead in the fifth, and Zimmermann crushing a three-run bomb in the eighth for the final 12-2 score, giving the all-star five RBIs on the day and a league-leading 74 on the season.

With the victory, Gateway has now won 11 straight games and 15 of their last 16 at home, and they will look to keep that momentum rolling in the middle game against the Capitales on Saturday, July 29, at 6:45 p.m. CT. Carson LaRue will start on the mound for the Grizzlies against Québec's Steven Fuentes.

Crestwood, IL - The Ottawa Titans (32-32) got solid production on all fronts in a 10-1 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts (26-37) on Friday.

Damon Casetta-Stubbs (win, 4-3) rolled through six shutout innings to win his fourth contest of the season. The righty allowed just two hits, walked one, and struck out seven in the quality start. Over his last eight outings, Casetta-Stubbs is 4-1 with a 1.69 ERA.

The offence strung together 14 hits in the win and plated seven runs in the opening five innings against Javier Reynoso (loss, 2-1) to take the series opener.

After knocking Reynoso out of the game, Taylor Wright's sac fly extended the lead before David Mendham's two-run double to centre scored a pair to make it 7-0.

Sicnarf Loopstok helped lead the way offensively with a 2-for-5 night. Loopstok bounced back with an RBI double in the third inning and led off the seventh inning with his eighth homer of the season.

Leading big, Austin Davis and AJ Wright helped plate a couple more in the seventh inning to extend the lead as big as 10-0.

Following Casetta-Stubbs' outing, the ThunderBolts got on the board with a Dan Robinson RBI single off Nick MacDonald.

Kenny Williams and Trevor Clifton got through a combined two shutout innings to help the Titans snap a three-game losing streak.

Newcomer Joey Terdoslavich chipped in with a 3-for-5 performance in his Titans debut. The former major leaguer was signed earlier in the day after starting the season in the Mexican League.

In the win, Austin Davis, Joey Terdoslavich each recorded three hits, while Taylor Wright and Scinarf Loopstok each posted two hits.

AVON, OH - The Tri-City ValleyCats (40-24) stunned the Lake Erie Crushers (27-37) with a come-from-behind 6-5 victory on Friday at Mercy Health Stadium after trailing by two runs with two outs in the ninth. Tri-City becomes the first team in the Frontier League to 40 wins. After the Québec Capitales fell 12-2 to the Gateway Grizzlies, the ValleyCats claimed sole possession of first place in the Frontier League East Division for the first time since May 13 — the second game of the year.

Tri-City got on the board in the first. Matt Mulhearn issued a walk to Cito Culver, and a double to Jakob Goldfarb. Juan Kelly picked up an RBI groundout to give the ValleyCats a 1-0 lead.

Lake Erie took advantage of the free passes in the first. Andrew Dietz issued a walk to Jiandido Tromp and Zach Racusin. Both baserunners advanced 90 feet on a wild pitch. Todd Issacs Jr. lifted a sac fly, and Racusin went to third. Jack Harris then hit an RBI single. Kemuel Thomas-Rivera singled and Josh Rego walked to load the bases. John Tucillo had an RBI hit by pitch, and Sam Frontino followed suit with an RBI walk to pull the Crushers ahead, 4-1.

Dietz received a no-decision. He tossed 2.1 innings, allowing five runs on five hits, walking four, and striking out three.

Tri-City cut the deficit to two as Pavin Parks lifted a solo homer in the third. It was his eighth long ball of the year. Lake Erie responded in the home half of the third as Rego blasted a solo homer to extend the Crushers lead to 5-2.

Kelly ripped the ValleyCats second homer of the day in the sixth to make it a 5-3 affair. It was his fifth home run of the season, second with Tri-City.

Mulhearn was handed a no-decision. He twirled seven frames, giving up three runs on four hits, walking two, and striking out three.

Tri-City rallied off Alexis Rivero in the ninth. Oscar Campos greeted him with a single. ValleyCats' manager Pete Incaviglia boldly put Blake Workman in as a pinch-runner. Lamar Briggs moved Workman to third with a two-out single. Tanner Smith plated both runners with a game-tying double. Jaxon Hallmark hit an infield single, and Smith made a mad dash for home. After Hallmark was safe at first, Rego threw a dart to the catcher Tucillo, who dropped the ball, allowing Smith to score the go-ahead run, and provide the 'Cats with a 6-5 lead.

Coleman Huntley ran into some trouble in the bottom of the ninth. Before he could record an out, the Crushers loaded the bases after Racusin doubled, and Scout Knotts walked and Harris walked. Huntley snared a line drive from Thomas-Rivera, and doubled up Rascusin at third. Rego tapped a weakly hit grounder to Culver, who glove-flipped the ball to Kelly at first base. Despite a headfirst dive, Rego was retired for the final out.

Huntley collected his fourth save of the year. Huntley (1.0 IP) along with three other relievers in Tyler Jeans (2.2 IP), Caden O'Brien (2.0 IP), and Pavin Parks (1.0 IP) combined for 6.2 scoreless frames to seal the victory. Parks (1-1) earned the win. He went an inning, yielding no runs, one hit, walking none, and striking one.

Rivero (0-2) received the loss. He threw an innings, yielding three runs, two earned on four hits, walking one, and striking out two.
